SADDLE-UP FOR GUNFIGHTS, SALOON BRAWLS, A TOUCH OF ROMANCE, AND MAYHEM IN THE OLD WEST.
The southeastern Nevada mining camp of Pioche was known as one of the most corrupt and dangerous communities in the silver state. When it was rumored that a federal judge might be involved in schemes dealing with water and land issues, U.S. Marshal Bull Morrison and his deputy, Slim Calhoun were sent to investigate. They discovered rampant lawlessness led by a corpulent mine owner and allegedly backed by a federal judge in Salt Lake City.
The marshals were outnumbered and outgunned, but when they called for help from the local citizens, they got it. Schemes to control the waters of Lincoln County, to illegally acquire existing ranches, and to sell non-existent mines or phony stocks were among the crimes taking place.
“Five stars and more, is all I can say about this amazing story of realistic old American western folklore!”

About the author

I’ve had a wonderful and varied time along this bumpy highway called life. I spent my early years in Santa Cruz, California, swimming, fishing, and wallowing in the splendor of redwoods, the Monterey Bay, and a loving family. Then, my four years of high school were spent living on the Island of Guam. That was back in the early 1950s Yes, Virginia, I am that old, but only in body, not spirit.
My first job in radio was in 1958. I bought the Virginia City Legend newspaper in that old western mining community in 1971, and retired from having a job in 2010. That’s when I changed from being a reporter of news to being a writer of fiction, and over these last few years have found my western and crime/mystery stories published as novels and in magazines and anthologies, around the world.
My beautiful wife Patty and I live on a small hobby farm about twenty miles north of Reno, Nevada, sharing space with a couple of fine horses, a flock of egg-producing chickens, and some breeding rabbits. You’re always welcome to visit. I need help cleaning those corrals.

Story is too tangled, too repetitive, and too predictable to rate more than 3 Stars.
When crooks move in and take over the town of Pioche with their water, silver, and land schemes, most of the citizens just want to live in peace. Rumors have it that there is more corruption than just the outlaws and maybe a federal judge. The marshal has his hands full and there are more villains than he can take on by himself. He is even suspicious of some of his deputies. He can’t count the number of times that he had reached out for help to the federal judge’s office. But, little did he know that he would have some unknown help, word finally reaches San Francisco where Slim Calhoun and Bull Morrison are located. Their boss orders them to go undercover and try to figure out what is going on and who is involved.
Arriving in Pioche they head for the local saloon to try to obtain information that they need. They happen to learn that the local Marshall had been seen heading for their hotel, and the boys figured that he would be checking out their room. Sure enough, they catch him in the act of going through their bags. Sitting down to have a little chat with him, he informs them that he had requested help numerous times, but he figured that this last time it finally had been passed up the line, therefore he figured that the men were US Marshall’s. Of course, they are not sure that they can trust him, so they tell him to stay away from them and let them do their job. Next, they find out that the Sheriff is none other than an outlaw out of Texas, and so are his deputies.
Join Slim and Bull as they battle the outlaws and bring JUSTICE to Pioche the hard way…
What did I like? You have to love the lead characters, especially Bull Morrison! Try as he might, he just can’t keep out of fights, but then the way he sees it, it is just a little more fun and relaxing to beat the crap out of the bad guys. The two of them are the perfect team, brawn, and brains. But on the other hand, they work so well that it seems like they can read each other’s minds. Don’t you just love it when you find the perfect lead characters so in sync with each other?
What will you like? When Bull Morrison is around the action is in double time and this book is no different. He walks in and a fight breaks out. The characters are absolutely formidable, the criminals think they have everything under control, but you just never know when they have no clue that they are being led around on a string that they can’t see. It’s a pleasure to see the good guys win and take control. Johnny does an incredible job with his storyline, weaving the mystery around until the very end. His descriptions and attention to detail are extremely well researched and shows on every page. Those descriptions bring his storyline to life, and you just can’t lay this book down. “Trouble in Pioche” is available NOW!
