As an avid reader and mother of five young readers, I was so excited when this movie first opened. My eldest daughter had recently read the book in school, so I decided to take her to the movie. I was pleasantly surprised at how well made, well acted, and entertaining the movie proved to be.
With high caliber actors like Sissy Spacek, William Hurt, Ben Kingly, and more, it was easy to get lost in the story. The scenery was beautiful, the screenplay closely followed the book with a few exceptions, but not enough to 'ruin' it, as many screen adaptations do.
The young actors that play the main characters are both beautiful, but Alexis Bledel wasn't quite the actress she might have been.
Other than that, though, the movie was great.
I plan to watch it again with my youngest daughter as soon as she reads the book.
