“This book is fantastic. The story line is interesting from the start to the end, it hardly makes you want to stop reading it. Being able to read the perspective of different characters adds more to the story and does not drag the story line as some books do. If you read it you will not regret it.

This is an interesting novel and I like the fact that women are in the lead roles...well, almost, so that is a plus for me, as well. The characters are well-developed and they have diverse backgrounds which always makes for a more exciting read.
I also liked the fact that Chicago's O'Hare airport is included. Locations are as diverse as the characters. Chaos erupts when citizens begin to realize that the power is not returning. Even FEMA is struggling when those in charge realize the magnitude of this problem.
I will read on to the next one in this series in June of 2019.
Yes, there were a few typo's and missing words, but far better than most of the ones I have read. Author does not think much of the FEMA or disaster management bureaucrats, who treat the refugees after an EMP attack as little better than sheep or cattle. Author does know what he is writing about (this from a retired military guy) and I will read the follow-on books for sure. If you want to gain an understanding of what will probably happen in a national emergency, you should too.
Realistic characters and background stories are woven in seamlessly.
This scenario could very well happen
So glad I found this book!
Their struggles and desperation to get to their loved ones was so intense I couldn’t put the book down.
I can’t wait to start reading book 2, The Hunter.
I Bata read for my wife, I also serve as the first editor, in a string of editors. She too is an Indie Author. I think she's good. So are you... don't let the trolls get to you. Your story was believable, good flow, good character development, and only a couple of typos. Much better than most Indie Authors. Another thing I liked, you didn't try to impress us with your knowledge of guns. A pet peeve of mine.
Keep writing... just ordered book 2.

Brilliant storyline, following turmoil of trying to escape cities, avoiding troubled areas. Or getting caught up in it, then finding your way out.
The main characters are well defined, but could be developed even further. For instance, the main character Maddie appears to have a boyfriend somewhere. Yet, the boyfriend is gets literally two sentences in the story. I get that the core family is more important than someone who she might have only met recently, but a partner would usually get more exposure, or a proper explanation why they are not mentioned more.
I'm also missing an explanation why for example certain machinery works, while other doesn't. Having some vehicles work, while most aren't, is a somewhat too convenient way of transporting characters over great distances. The writer has created a certain world, and the reader deserves to know if there are any exceptions to the rules.
I understand that this is merely the first book in a series of many. Possibly answers will be given in series. The above comments are small details that wouldn't prevent me from pursuing the series. The book was well written, easy to follow, a good length, and most importantly, it was captivating. I'd like to know what will happen to the characters, so I will continue reading. Hopefully the next book(s) are equally good.
