The Twelve Plagues (The Cycle of Galand) Paperback – May 19, 2021
Enhance your purchase
They may have defeated the lich—but Taim is still going to destroy the mortal world of Rale.
Facing starvation in the dead of winter, Dante leads his people toward the abundant fields of Gallador Rift. Along the way, though, a horrifying illness breaks out among the travelers. As earthquakes rattle the land and volcanoes black out the sky, it becomes clear the plague was only the first attack launched against Rale.
Their only hope is to travel back to the Realm of the gods and try to bargain with them—and if that fails, to wage war on them. But the only known doorway to the Realm is hundreds of miles away. With the world in the throes of collapse, and flooded with monsters from hell's darkest depths, all of the world might be torn apart before Dante and Blays have the chance to start fighting back.

I know that Dante and Blays can't exactly have everything go their way, but do they really need side missions as they struggle to complete their steps to finish the main mission? I couldn't help but roll my eyes as they set off to do one thing, but then had to accomplish something else along the way to get to that one thing. It was just too much and could have been severely cut down so the book wasn't sooooo long.
Honestly, if I ever reread Dante and Blays' story, I will stop at The Cycle of Arawn, and forget The Cycle of Galand.
Sigh... I hope the last book provides more of a story to keep my interest.
I mean that I get it that they (our main characters) need to keep fighting to make it interesting but at some point it will just start to repeat itself with new names / foes but same ideas.
And then the next book comes out, I read it and think "Wow! Edward pulled it off again and wrote an even better book!"
I have been in this vicious thought cycle since the first book of this cycle...
So, regarding this book I'd say:
"Wow! Edward pulled it off again and wrote an even better book!"
Can't wait for the next one to come out...
The writing is good as expected and the characters are true to their previous development. I look forward to reading other stories from the author, but this one just didn’t do it for me.
