Marshall Everett has traveled a twisting, perilous road from the jungles of South America to the streets of Paris. As an undercover DEA agent, Marshall penetrated a powerful cartel and became the trusted right-hand man of a ruthless drug lord. The price he paid was devastating, costing him everything—and everyone—he loved. Back in the U.S., on temporary assignment to the Secret Service, on the presidential detail, Marshall performs an act of heroism that changes his course forever.
Ariana Gregory has her whole future ahead of her, with an exciting life in Manhattan and a coveted job at an online fashion magazine. But when her father, recently widowed, is appointed U.S. ambassador to Argentina, she reluctantly agrees to accompany him to Buenos Aires. Then an unthinkable act of violence shatters her world.
Nearly a year later, Ariana arrives in Paris, on a fragile road to recovery. There, as she strives to bury painful memories forever, she crosses paths with Marshall Everett. But dangerous forces watch her every move, and Ariana and Marshall will once more have to fight for their survival.
In this breathtaking and psychologically penetrating novel, #1 New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel explores the consequences of trauma and the perseverance of the human spirit. In Marshall and Ariana she has created two unforgettable characters confronting extraordinary challenges—who no longer need to face them alone.

It centers on Arianna a woman who falls for a "bad boy", and Marshall who is a DEA agent and how their paths intersect for a pretty decent book. I am vague so as not to spoil it for you, this book has a few twists, a pat ending that you can see coming, which probably is setting up for a sequel and a few OMG what was she thinking moments.
Is this one of the best books you'll ever read - no. Will this book keep you up at night reading - no, but if you're looking for a an easy read, with a few twists in the love life of a young girl who thinks "bad boys" can be changed and a guy who had his knocks from life hit him hard, then this is the book for you. It's a nice story/read for a snowy Saturday night in front of the fireplace or Sunday afternoon at the beach where you can put it down and get back to it later. I do want to add one more thing, I think the book is not worth the $14 price tag but is worth your time.
I just had one problem and feel I should state this. I have service dog and have problem with people "passing off"" animals that have not been trained properly as service dogs - particularly when flying. Then when I bring my dog who is exceptionally well trained and was trained in the Ohio prison program they give me a lot of grief. The airlines are usually pretty good but confessed to me at the end of one flight they had a dog the preceding week who bothered other passengers and how well behaved she is. Another restaurant did not allow entrance because a dog had "chewed the carpet." Now there is the American With Disabilities Act which I can use and argue, but it is hard for me just going about my daily life defending this act because of people who abuse it. Ms. Steel had the main character pass his large dog as a service dog to fly. This does give people ideas. I am sure she did not mean it to do this - but please be aware. You have a huge following and this type of breaking the law hurts people like myself.
It gives you a picture of what it takes to do undercover work for the U.S. Government mentally , emotionally, and physically. The romance
Is poignant and smoothly woven into the story. The characters are believable and the story is well laid out. It is definitely a good read!

However, my rating has nothing to do with this and is purely on the book itself. The two stars are because I didn't finish it and it is possible that by some miracle it may have improved. So a first for me, after forty four pages I could no longer bear it. I wondered at times if it had been written by Ms Steel when she was twelve. It may be it came on the back of books by Sue Monk Kidd, Craig Russell and Stephen King. In every book, no matter how bad, there is always something memorable. I do think the book cover was quite good.
