Unexpected Love Story Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
CrystalI was the strong one, they said, until two words brought me to my knees. It was a secret I didn't share with anyone, a secret that made me promise I'd never fall in love.
I no longer wanted that white picket fence of every woman's dreams. But then the unthinkable happened.
GabeI thought I had it all with the best medical practice in the state and the woman of my dreams. I wore a smile on my face every single day. I couldn't wait to watch her walk down the aisle and start our forever, except she never did. My runaway bride made me realize love isn't worth it.

I loved Crystal (though I hate the name, it reminds me of a stripper) in Perfect Love Story, and she was a great character in this book. My heart broke for her in the first chapter of this book. She was strong, though, and did everything she could to protect herself and those she loved. I loved her snark and her refusal to back down when she was certain of herself. I would have liked to have seen a little more organic growth from her, as I felt she only allowed herself to change when the choice was taken away from her. Gabe was the far more interesting character, in terms of growth, in Unexpected Love Story. Watching him change from the jaded, surly man he’d been at the beginning to the passionate, considerate man he was, in the end, was wonderfully heartwarming.
After reading Perfect Love Story, the plot of Unexpected Love Story was fairly predictable. There weren’t a lot of new scenes, just retellings of the scenes established in PLS, which lent to the feeling of knowing exactly what was coming. That being said, I did love getting to see what Crystal and Gabe were doing in all those secret moments from the first book. It was obvious – in both books – that their connection was explosive and unrestrainable. Their back and forth was exciting and served to show how well they really knew each other.
I have a few wishes for this book. First, it needs another round of editing. There were a lot of grammatical and continuity issues. Second, Crystal’s personal struggle and how that all planned out was too far-fetched – even for fiction – for me to be able to suspend my beliefs for. Finally, I felt like recapping the entirety of what had happened before Crystal and Hailey moved was redundant. Very little of it had anything to do with Crystal and Gabe’s story, and those pages could have been far better used in helping flesh out Crystal and Gabe’s journey.
Unexpected Love Story is the second book in Natasha Madison’s Love series. These books are technically interconnected standalones, as they each deal with a different couple, but reading them in order gives a better experience in understanding the nuances of what has happened to bring them to the point they’re at. Unexpected Love Story is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Crystal & Gabe.
Natasha Madison blew me away with when I read her first novel. This one didn’t seem to have the same magic as that one, however. There were glimpses of that same intense storytelling, and I loved those. As I was reading, I felt as if this book was an obligation, a bridge to reach from one story she wanted to tell, to the next, but not something that had the author’s heart and soul in it.
I did love Gabe and thought he was very caring, sexy, smart and witty. He was left at the alter and didn't know if he could love again, until he meets Crystal. My main reason for only giving this three stars is because I don't think Crystal was very nice to him. Sure the banter was fun to read, and their chemistry was hot and you could feel the sexual tension and their attraction towards one another, but that's all they really had together as a couple. There were no sweet and tender moments that she initiated, she never told him he was special or any other qualities she admired. She really didn't talk about anything personal. She just blurted out the one personal secret she had kept from him (as to why she didn't want children) after they had been together for several months. They just to me never had any real conversation or emotional connection.
The one time they cooked together in the cabin they were making grilled cheese and I am assuming canned soup. They started cooking it when their friends left. I am a stickler for details and these things annoy me....their friends came back just as the sandwiches were done. You can't even get the mail that fast let alone leave for a nightclub and come back all before you can make a sandwich. I also didn't like how everyone kept mentioning what an awesome nurse she was. Most nurses work hard and don't make mistakes or they'd be fired. You can't make mistakes in healthcare. And when she went home on bedrest, the doctor later said she can work one day a week. That wouldn't happen, he would tell her a few hours a day, maybe twice a week, not go in for 8 hours straight. I know I am being picky but I am a beta reader for other authors and can't help it.
All in all I liked this book and really liked Gabe, but I felt sorry for him. His ex wouldn't hold his hand or kiss him in public and I believe he deserved this kind of love. He was very giving and generous. There is also a part in the book where he is being targeted–his four tires slashed twice and later his house catches fire, and she doesn't even seem to care. She is smug and says that he must have gotten someone angry. I just expect much more from my female lead to be able to call her a heroine. The book does end with a nice HEA, but I feel he deserved more than Crystal gave him.
I am a fan of Natasha Madison and will continue to read her books, especially the "Something So" series.

This beautiful ladies words have a habit of throwing me for a loop, just when I think I’ve got it all figured out, she throws more at me, making me feel like I’ve been hit in the face with a frying pan full of emotion. I felt everything whilst reading this story, I laughed, cried, swooned and fanned my way through the whole thing, then couldn’t wait to do it all again on the next read.
After reading book one in this gorgeous series, I figured Unexpected Love Story would be some light relief from the cruel tragedy that changed the lives of 6 people irrevocably. Boy was I wrong!. Whilst there were lots and lots of comedic moments, there was also tons of heat and beautiful moments full of love, happiness, moving on and starting over, but also sadness from a painful past which left Crystal swearing off of falling in love forever.
After being left at the alter, Gabe doesn’t believe in love anymore, but when he meets the new nurse his father has hired, and comes face to face with his one night stand, that he regretted not having contact details for, he sets his sights on her, and doesn’t let her crazy, push him away. Crystal can’t help falling too, and after she makes him work for it, pushing every button he has, she finds herself wishing for the white picket fence and family she never thought she’d get.
It’s a perfect story with all the elements I love from Ms Madison, and I can’t wait to see what she brings with book 3! 5 (and the rest) crazy, beautiful, fun, overwhelming, love story stars ⭐️
But this book, about Crystal and Gabe, is even better!!!
Great plot. Fabulous characters. Very well written.
Crystal accompanies Hailey when she moves...and has a very "interesting" encounter just before she starts her new job. And it's all go from there!
We have the added bonus of seeing more of Hailey and Jensen in this book.
Must read series!!!
Well written with good characters and dialogue. I liked the story but felt they both needed exploring with their inner thoughts and feelings and not just redo what happened in the first book. It's good to relive those scenes but I felt it needed more of their story.
Definitely a page turner,worth a look.
