Unexpected Places: Thoughts on God, Faith, and Finding Your Voice Kindle Edition
Unexpected Places is the personal story of gospel singer Anthony Evans, son of well-known pastor Tony Evans and brother of author Priscilla Shirer. In this intimate and moving memoir, Anthony shares the details of his struggles with depression and doubt, and encourages readers with the unique story of his search for purpose and identity.
From growing up duty-bound to his name, to his time as a finalist and then talent producer on The Voice, Anthony explores the pressures he experienced as a child and as a young man in Hollywood. He describes the journey to his renewed faith in God and exposes the vast differences between what the world teaches us to value and how God values us. Anthony examines what his parents did right in raising him but also describes how they unknowingly missed his pain. Finally, he reveals how God orchestrated His plan to grow Anthony into a man who is in love with his life, his heritage, and his individual calling.
Anthony has learned to embrace the incredible beauty of his unique voice. In Unexpected Places, he invites readers on their own journey to do the same.
About the Author
Anthony Evans has voiced the gospel with a melodic, thought-provoking style for two decades and has emerged as one of Christian music's premier worship leaders and singer/songwriters. Along the way, he has released ten solo projects, two of which debuted #1 on Billboard's Top Gospel Album charts, released his first book, Unexpected Places, produced numerous music videos, acted in three movies, and performed as "Beast" in the Disney Hollywood Bowl production of Beauty and the Beast. Most recently Anthony received his first Grammy nomination for his executive production work on the gospel album My Tribute. He has collaborated on inspirational events with his father, beloved pastor and international speaker, Dr. Tony Evans, his sisters Priscilla Shirer and Chrystal Evans Hurst, along with his brother, author and speaker Jonathan Evans.
Anthony's appearance on NBC's The Voice led him to being discovered and enlisted to perform and produce vocals for various major artists and networks. In addition to vocal production, Anthony has been enlisted as talent producer for an assortment of popular reality and competition shows. This sojourn in Los Angeles has led him to think more progressively about his own music and ministry, desiring to communicate in terms that connect with people spiritually, no matter where they are in their journey with the Lord, without compromising his own faith and message. This focus, along with his powerful, one-of-a-kind voice, has allowed Anthony to not only vibrate the doors of the church, but to make connections and venture beyond.--This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

The book is such an easy read, littered with so many nuggets of wisdom. I love how Anthony sees God's voice in everything - he has a teachable spirit that recognizes the voice of his creator. I enjoyed and appreciated his raw honesty, humility and... I'm trying to think of another 'h' but I'm drawing a blank. I picked up this book in the middle of one of the most hectic weeks I've had all year. My mind just needed space and a break. I had not read anything that has held my attention like this in a while. Which might also explain why I proceeded to breeze through it in less than 24hrs... :D.
I really didnt want this book to end.
It was interesting to learn about the gospel and christian recording industry. No matter the genre, it appears that music executives are more concerned about classifying artist instead cultivating who they are. He wrote in depth about some of the differences between Gospel and Christian music and how they are marketed.
Not only is this book an excellent read, it's empowering to know that everyone's walk with Christ is an individual journey. It doesn't matter if you're the son of a powerful minister, or brother of an awesome author you have to know Jesus for yourself.
Reading this book was like looking into a mirror. The internal struggles with self and religion were so relatable.
I loved that the chapters were digestable and always provided small nuggets to tuck away into the readers bag.
I found myself jotting notes, underlining relatable issues and randomly both crying and laughing - the rawness to some of his stories had me literally talking out loud to the book, lol!
Thank you Mr. Anthony for allowing us a small glimpse into your world!
I hope your book journey does not end here.
I look forward to more books. Blessings to you sir!
Thank you Anthony Evan's Jr. for sharing your story!

This book has highlighted a lot of issues I believe many Christians struggle with. God wants us to be vulnerable because it’s in vulnerability and brokenness that HE meets us and heals our pain. HE is close to the broken hearted and saves the crashed in spirit. ( Psalm 34:18 )
( Psalm 51:17 ) The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart. - These O God you will not despise.
Anthony encourages transparency, honesty, vulnerability, authenticity and courage. His story is very relatable not only by christians but I believe every human being can connect with a genuine expression of every day struggles, pain, brokenness and some tips on how to overcome and keep staying the path.
The words of this book are weighty and so heart felt. It’s an easy, simple, witty & very relatable read. I highly recommend it.
Thank YOU so much Anthony Evans Jr for your encouragement through sharing your testimony. Grace & Peace to you.
I hope a sequel is on the way.
