But once you pry apart the books ribcage and get to digging inside is where you start to find what this book is truly about and that is the alienation of youth and it’s strengths and weaknesses.
It does a marvelous job of trying to understand and compartmentalize grief and loss, as well as touching base on how powerful and all consuming your first love can be and the recklessness of youth.
It’s also written in a very literary and beautiful way. Chandler has such a way with his wielding of prose and its shines through constantly throughout the novel, never coming through as pretentious in the least.
Seriously , he’s a master of his craft.
This book struck a nerve for me because it perfectly encompasses my angsty teenage years and I could relate to a lot of these feelings myself back in my youth.
There’s a lot of deliciously funny humor littered throughout the text in countless scenes that will bring lots of smiles and laughs but make no mistake that this is a horror novel as there are plenty of horrific scenes and murders peppered throughout.
My favorite part was a showstopper of a scene where our humble narrator Casanova tries the highly unsafe new street drug “Captain Howdy”with his friends and has a disastrous and frightening bad trip that you won’t forget.
All in all this was such a satisfying journey that every horror fan or just lover of good fiction should definitely give a read, highly recommended.

Until the Sun was a book that is WAY out of my comfort zone. If it wasn’t for our group that were all reading this together to discuss, I probably would have bailed on it. I personally just don’t like anything that centers around sex and drugs, and that was a major part of this book.
However, I’m SO glad I stuck with it.
Overall, Chandler Morrison’s writing style was wonderful. I really enjoyed the use of dialog and how the story overall was organized. This book started off in a way that made me curious… so I just had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen. The ending was definitely worth me following the elements that I didn’t care much for.
Other than that, I gotta say that this is one that’s really best to just dive in for yourself!

I'm not a vampire fan.... However I liked this vampire story more than most.
Anyways, second person was refreshing. It's rare for me to read a book saying 'you' all the time. I get it. It's supposed to put me in the story. It did not.
The story was interesting, but I didn't find any of the characters likeable. Not even me (my character). Especially when my friends brought their politics into the story. I read to escape reality. Not to read about characters bashing our president.
Then the plot twist which really wasn't a twist. It was, but it wasn't. I kinda saw it coming, but then looking back it made some parts of the story not make sense. I can't go into details without ruining anything. I read another book a while back that had the same 'plot twist'... But the story was much different. Maybe I thought too hard about things and in retrospect, some of the storyline didn't add up.
This story was entertaining, but slow at many parts.
If vampires are your thing, I recommend this book
I say this, of course, in loving praise.
It is a juxtaposition of mature prose and youthful story, the emotions of adolescence as told through a lens of wisdom and experience.
It languishes in its sensibilities, content to unravel at a slow pace punctuated by moments of jarring violence.
Most interesting of all, it is a story of love and of loss, of regret and apathy. One of resigning oneself to a life less unordinary, accepting both the allure and vapidity of the Culture of Cool.
Featuring stellar prose from a promising young artist, Until the Sun comes highly recommended.
