Such An Underrated Film. Incredible Cast.

This movie that I feel has been long forgotten and underrated is a really good movie. On a $18 million budget it was a hot movie grossing $28 million and still I've never been able to rent this film until now. I'm so grateful I got to finally now. The cast is incredible with names like Sylvia Sidney, Doris Roberts and of course the amazing stars Shirley MacLaine, Jessica Tandy, Kathy Bates and Marcia Gay Harden. If you love Fried Green Tomatoes, Driving Miss Daisy and The Evening Star then this touching drama is for you. It's a little long but worth the watch and the acting is nothing short of brilliant.

One of my favorite movies

Lovely movie with great performances by Shirley MacLaine, Marcia Gay Harden, Marcello Mastroianni. Major characters all flawed or emotionally damaged people but wonderful interplay as a family. Feel good movie that isn't superficial. Can't recommend it enough. All about the power of acceptance and opening your heart.

This is no Fellini

The cast are wonderful actors and actresses. The movie is a complete disappointment. Too crowded. Most of this film should have ended on the cutting floor. Too much, too much. The audio is terrible. Watching this DVD broke my heart. I had such great expectations. I must have watched a different version in the past. Such is life.

I remembered this film as being so sweet and funny

I remembered this film as being so sweet and funny , but the intervening years have not been kind to it. I still liked it but realized it was not as "wonderful" as I remembered. It is never made clear why Perl and her husband were so unhappy during the marriage. Their life was most likely very comparable to the majority of middle class marrieds who lived during the 40's, and 50"s. And into the 60's. this time around I was fascinated by the lovely hair of Pearl and the fantastic retro chrome kitchen set. Mastroiann'is accent was too heavy for me to understand exactly what he was saying. I found myself backing up the CD in order to understand the dialogue. I adore Marcello but I am convinced another actor in this part would have made all the difference, I am thinking perhaps Anthony Quinn.

I received this item in fine condition, in the time advised. I have no issues with my order. This is one of those movies I somehow never saw, but with all of the people in it, it's great to see now. Glad to add to my collection.

Great movie, but no captions available

I absolutely LOVE this movie!! Having said that, I was very excited to finally see it available on DVD. BUT...there are no captions!! Some of the characters have accents, and trying to decipher every word becomes difficult. Also, captions are just a common courtesy for the hearing impaired. I ended up buying the digital streaming version of this movie (with captions), and will return or simply donate the purchased DVD. Very disappointed.

Nice movie headed by a fine cast!

I'm a sucker for films that deal with people from different backgrounds getting together and learning about one another. Although I don't think the situation here is a possible one, it makes for a good story. Actually, there are several stories being told here which makes for an overall interesting motion picture experience. A fine overall cast headed by Marcello Mastrianni and Shirley McLane, I was both intrigued and entertained by the way the complexities of relationships somehow get worked out in the end. If you like action and fast paced story lines, this is not the film for you.

It took me quite a few years to figure out the name of this movie. Then I discovered that Amazon had a feature called Video Library. I was able to buy the movie and watch it on line any time and as many times as I want. I will be using this feature a lot more. What a great service this has become. Thank you, Thank you THANK YOU Amazon. This was such a great movie with amazing named actors and such a cute story
