Vaults of Obsidian (Warhammer 40,000) Kindle Edition
A Blackstone Fortress anthology
Many are the adventurers brave or mad enough to enter the Blackstone Fortress in search of riches, relics and secrets. Ratlings, robots and rogue traders – and more would-be heroes besides – all pursue their own agendas in a collection of action-packed short stories.
READ IT BECAUSE
Venture into the treacherous depths of the Blackstone Fortress in a collection of tales that showcase the many explorers in the alien labyrinth and their greatest – and most dangerous – adventures.
For uncountable ages the Blackstone Fortress has kept its watchful silence. It patiently waits, willing those brave enough to gamble everything exploring its halls. Only the most determined of adventurers will return with riches – the unworthy are never seen again. But to many, the rewards far outweigh the risks. Among the denizens of Precipice, ratlings, robots, and rogue traders all pursue their own agendas, pitting themselves against the myriad forces of darkness that have claimed the fortress as their own. Deadliest of all is Obsidius Mallex, who aims to twist another Talisman of Vaul to Chaos’ unholy cause. Unless this traitor is stopped, the galaxy will burn beneath the wrath of the Ruinous Gods.

This little book has several quests in it as well as retinue characters. Buy or sub in some new models and you have a whole series of one-off adventures! In addition there is a great set of tables for folks further along that sets up Precipice as a location a bit better than just visiting your ships for loot.
WELL worth the money.

Whether that in itself is a good thing might be up for debate.
It's still surprising that after about 800 pages of books, and the materials from the game and its three expansions, we know basically nothing about the titular Fortress - by which I mean really basic stuff like what it looks like; what overall form it takes (it's clearly much larger than the six Fortresses we've seen before, but beyond that... nothing).
There are some interesting implications in some of the stories which should be extremely important to the grander narrative of the setting, but which aren't expanded upon, and in all likelihood never will be (like the Mechanicus presence!)
If you didn't mind the slightly off-kilter feel of Hinks' 'Blackstone Fortress' novel there's some fun to be had here, but don't expect to learn anything much about the setting.
