Verbatim AZO DVD Media
The Verbatim AZO recording layer gives our DVD media the competitive advantage—the patented coating delivers protection that lasts generations and provides ultimate resistance to UV light damage (US Patent 7,989,139). That’s why Verbatim has been consistently recognized as providing optical media of the highest quality, reliability and compatibility. When drive manufacturers test their products for performance, they use Verbatim – so why wouldn’t you?
About Verbatim's AZO Technology
Verbatim’s AZO recording layer is a unique and ultra-stable layer that strongly resists UV light, withstands high laser and rotation speeds and ensures compatibility with current DVD standards. Verbatim paid particular attention to the durability and light fastness of AZO, making it more stable than most recording dyes and the least affected by ultraviolet light.
AZO also offers high sensitivity for reliable high-speed recording and high reflectivity to eliminate read errors. The thinness of the recording layer is also critical. The thinner the layer, the higher the sensitivity and power margin; therefore, the better the DVD works for high-speed recording.
What does all this mean for you? Verbatim AZO technology translates into optical products that cost just a little more but are worth the slight difference. They are the discs you want, offering reliability, maximum read and write performance, especially with newer drives, and superior archival protection that lasts.
Provides superior performance and reliability, no matter what you are saving. This patented Mitsubishi technology is only available from Verbatim! (US Patent 7,989,139)
Verbatim manufactures our DVDs to meet our strict quality standards. We stand behind the quality of our products!
Optical drive manufacturers use our products to test their performance – so why wouldn’t you?
Things to Consider
What are the differences among the formats?
The differences are as follows:
DVD-R and DVD+R record data one time only, then the disc is only readable
DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM allow you to record and erase data multiple times
DVD-ROM only reads data; you cannot save to this disc
What does the plus and dash found in the format mean?
When DVD media technology was first developed, the plus and dash formats used different writing and reading specifications. Today, most DVD writers and readers now work with no noticeable performance differences between plus and dash formats. Check with your manufacturers’ suggestion of DVD format for the best compatibility—especially in older technology.
So how do I know which DVD to use?
Recordable DVD media is a natural choice for data archiving and backup. Choosing a DVD+R or DVD-R is ideal, as these write once discs prevent contents from being erased or mistakenly replaced. Also, to extend the life of your DVD disc, consider Archival Grade DVDs, which include a gold layer that is naturally resistant to corrosion and offers greater protection than standard silver discs. DVDs are also a great option simple data backup. Using DVD+RW/DVD-RW or DVD+RAM/DVD-RAM re-writable media allows content to be added and edited as the information changes.
Archive vs. Backup – What’s the Difference?
Archiving digital files simply means creating a safe storage place for important files. Archived data is often a permanent record that is moved, not copied, from one system to another and retained for a specified period of time. Archiving is an easy activity that preserves your data with just a little preparation.
It’s best to have several copies of your digital archives to store in different locations. That’s why Blu-ray discs, DVDs and CDs are a natural choice for archiving. They’re inexpensive, portable and easy to store. Make sure you are using the right disc--the disc name you use should have an R on the end meaning it is write once. A write once disc prevents you from erasing contents or mistakenly replacing data. Also, to extend the life of your disc, consider Archival Grade media that include a gold layer that is naturally resistant to corrosion offering greater protection than standard silver discs.
You probably leave your digital files tucked away on your computers’ hard drive—assuming they are safe. But what if your computer crashes or files get corrupted somehow? You might lose your digital photos, music and data. Forever. Good news—it is simple to backup your digital files and you can have working copies that are quickly accessible. Getting started is easy; it only requires a backup routine performed regularly and a safe place to store your digital files.
BD-RE, DVD-RW/-RAM and CD-RW discs are a great choice for quick back-ups. Re-writable media allows you to add and edit content. This works well for constantly changing information.
Whether creating an archive or a backup, always remember to store your discs in a sleeve or case. This will help ensure they are protected from fingerprints, accidental spills, dust and debris, protecting your files for decades to come.
The ideal way to store discs is in an upright (like a book) position in a CD/DVD/Blu-ray case. Ideally, discs should be stored in a location 60-75 degrees F with 35-50% relative humidity. Fluctuations in the storage area should not exceed +/- 2 degrees F. in temperature; relative humidity should not fluctuate more than +/- 5%.

These days, I use and recommend Falcon Premium dvd-r. Not the Pro, not the Dupliline, not the Basic. Make sure to get the Premium line.
I have had amazing results with the Falcon brand discs. They are a little more money but well worth it. Falcon is probably the last company making high quality optical discs out there. They are as good as the old Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden discs.
These are the best dvd+r's out there. Top notch quality still. The accuracy, reflectivity, compatibility and longevity of these discs can not be beat. Over the years I have only ever had a few bad discs. These days, they all seem to be made at the Taiwan facility which is the highest quality optical media factory in the world at this point. I have not had a coaster in years now. I have many of these discs that are 11 to 14 years old and they have very little to no degradation. All play fine. All scan either the same as they did when they were made or with a very very slight increase in very correctable errors. In fact, they scan better than most other manufacturers discs when brand new and I expect them to last decades more. Just make sure to store them indoors, away from light and not near a heat or ac vent. Don't worry about paying the high prices of M-Discs and gold discs (both of which have compatibility issues), these discs last. Make sure that your dvd drive is not wearing out. I have found the biggest problem over the years is in using a burner for too long. I have made the mistake in thinking that I had bad discs when it was really my drive getting old and not burning correctly. DVD drives' lasers weaken over time and I have found that to be as large an issue in producing quality discs as disc quality. I have always found DVD+R better than -R although there are some that claim that there is no difference. +R does have more error correction and in my experience have less problems. Also, buy these branded ones, not the 8x Datalife Plus ones. Those are made in China at a lesser facility and Verbatim has a history of making much better 16x media than 8x.
The only other discs that compared to these were the Taiyo Yuden discs that were made in Japan. Now that they have closed that facility, Verbatim has no competition.

READ REVIEWS BEFORE BUYING !!!
But these discs have been terrible. I'm less than halfway through the spindle in a VHS-ripping project, and out of 40 discs, I've had trouble copying the files from three of the discs. One of the three was partially unreadable in three different drives, and I had to re-rip the tape. I used a 50-spindle of TDK discs in the same process without a single error.
I strongly suspect that I received counterfeit discs, but it's possible that I just got my first "bad batch" from Verbatim. I would give these less than one star if I could... nothing is worse than believing you have a copy of something and finding out later that your disc is garbage.
Then I burned one of the few remaining Verbatim DVD+R discs I have from 2011, and it was almost flawless. Verbatim DVD media used to be the best, but they are poor quality now. I had to try Taiyo Yuden for the first time, and even though they cost about twice as much, the burn quality is excellent. Beware though, I heard Taiyo Yuden is about to move production from Japan to China.
I "wasted" 10 disks that had a "verify failed" message plus the 3 that wouldn't even record.
Top international reviews
We didn't need to start recording with them until just last week, but when we did non of them would record the shows that we usually record.
Unfortunately the date for returning them has gone by with out us knowing about it.
There does not seem to be an avenue to report this to the manufacturer so we were compelled to go this route and write an unsatisfactory review.
We will not be ordering these again, and would not recommend them to anybody unless there is some satisfactory customer support over this matter.
I am only giving four stars as I have used 3/4 of the discs so far and had a few coasters, 5-8 discs so far? They are minor burn errors after verification. I would assume something happened during shipping, generally I never get Verbatim coasters.
This is also an awesome price for this many discs, absolutely great value for the money.
Quelque un ne fonctionnait pas, une dizaine de DVD. Le reste tout est correct
I always use the plus...better burn....Thanks Amazon
