Blog postBonjour! You may be wondering just who is this loud, chatty Vicki Lesage. Maybe you heard about one of my books, or maybe you even read one (thanks!). Perhaps you came here to learn a little more about me. Cool.
I'm a just-turned-40 gal from St. Louis who lived in Paris for more than a decade. I'm now back in the suburbs of good ol' St. Louis with my French husband and two kids. We loved living in Paris. We didn't love cramming four people into a one-bedroom apartment. Now we have m2 years ago Read more -
Blog postWhen we bought our house a few years ago (I can't believe it's been that long since we left Paris!), it had recently been flipped. This was a mostly good thing because most things looked good. And since the previous owners had done all the rehab, we didn't have to live in a construction zone for months. Yay for move-in ready!
However, we never loved the master bathroom. It was something we knew we'd need to update at some point before selling (which we're not planning on doing anyti2 years ago Read more -
Blog postIt's here! If you like books about Paris (and I assume so, since you're on my website), then you'll love my latest release:
From champagne bottles to baby bottles, this memoir offers a humorous glimpse of an American expat’s years abroad…
Party girl Vicki moved to Paris hoping to drink wine and fall in love. She accomplished both goals, but not without bumps along the way: romantic encounters gone awry, uniquely French situations threatening her sanity, and two a2 years ago Read more -

Blog postWhen we first moved into our house about two years ago, it was pretty much perfect. And not just because it has five bedrooms when my family of four had previously been crammed into a one-bedroom apartment in Paris. (But mostly because of that.)
The most perfect part? My Photoshopped grass.
The house had recently been flipped, so we have a new kitchen, new bathrooms, fresh paint, newly refinished original hardwood floors, and lots of other nice stuff for a house that was built2 years ago Read more -
Blog postA while back I was interviewed by Magda Dežđek of Sensa Magazine, a Croatian women's magazine, about French parenting. Like I know anything! Below are my answers in English, which she then translated into Croatian for the actual article. I hope I'm as funny in Croatian, ha!

Blog postIt's here! Confessions of a Paris Party Girl is now available in audiobook format. Woo hoo!
The narrator, Em Eldridge, did a wonderful job – she sounds more like me than I do! And a big thanks to Tantor Media for producing the audiobook.

Blog postI have some exciting news: Confessions of a Paris Party Girl is being produced as an audio book!
I'm thrilled because, as all of us busy people know, there's just not enough time in the day! I love to support other authors' work and travel to different worlds through the pages of a book. But there's also laundry and bills and buying Leo's 8th pair of shoes for the month because that kid is inexplicably rough on shoes.

Blog postWe were invited to a Kentucky Derby party at my aunt and uncle's house, which was a great excuse to get dressed to the nines (or the sevens or sixes as our case tends to be these days) and throw on some crazy big hats. And we brought some delicious Kentucky Derby-themed Mint Julep Brownies (recipe at the bottom).
But first, photos of the big day:

Blog postWe've been in the US for a few months now, and in our new house for a few weeks. The kids (and honestly, me too) still call it "the new house" even though now it's really just "the house." I guess we're all still so excited!
So here are some pictures of our new abode:

Blog postA while back, I met up with fellow expat-author-living-in-Paris Lily Heise, who penned Je T'Aime, Me Neither. We had a fab afternoon filled with quite a few drinks and lots of laughs, and wrote about it on our blogs (along with some tips for going out in the Marais).
Now, two years later (how has it been THAT long?!?) she and I are back: Lily with her new book and me to tell you how much I loved it!

Blog postMy daughter just celebrated her 2-year birthday, which means it's roughly the 2-year birthday of my second memoir, Confessions of a Paris Potty Trainer, as well! I'd written most of the book while on bed rest and wrapped it up while I was in the hospital after delivering her.
And now, to celebrate (though I'm sure they didn't realize it at the time!), Global Living Magazine has released their Summer 2016 issue, which includes a review of Confessions of a Paris Potty Trainer in their5 years ago Read more -
Blog postParisian doctor's offices are usually in the same building as residential apartments. In fact, the offices themselves often are converted apartments. The first few times I encountered this I found it bizarre (I go into this in more detail in my book, Confessions of a Paris Potty Trainer) but once you get used to it, you can appreciate their charm.

Blog postI'm scared to look at my phone bill this month. I've been calling the North Pole like nobody's business and I'm pretty sure that zone isn't part of my calling plan. But what am I supposed to do when my son is being naughty and he calls my bluff?
I call the big guy up north.
And... it's really not working for me. At all. My three-year-old son is totally on to me.

Blog postImmediately following the November 13th Paris attacks, I was contacted by a few different sites to write an article about it. Being less than two miles away from where one of the attacks happened, and living in a city where the effects of the attacks continue to be felt, it seemed I was a decent candidate to write about them.
I was flattered. But I was also at a loss for words. I couldn't really figure out what I wanted to say about it. What was different about my experience? We'd a5 years ago Read more -

Blog postThe other night Mika had to work late. He NEVER does that. Which means I'm NEVER alone with both kids on a busy weeknight. I had to pick them up from the creche/school and get them both home. Then I had to cook them both dinner. Then give them both baths without them drowning. Then get them to bed without them screaming.

Which means about four years ago I had my bachelorette party, during which I attempted to dance on the bar but fell off the barstool before that awesomeness could even begin. When newly single party girl Vicki moves to Paris, she hopes to indulge in wine, stuff her face with croissants, and fall in love. It proves to be more difficile than she imagined.
From strange cocktails to even stranger men (including The Great Foot Massage Incident), this cheeky storyteller recounts the highs and lows of her life in the City of Light. Outspoken and shamelessly honest, Vicki makes you feel as if you're right there in Paris stumbling along the cobblestones with her.
Will she find love? Will she learn to consume reasonable amounts of alcohol? Will she ever be able to pronounce “au revoir” without eliciting peals of laughter?
"An entertaining inside look at what it's like to be a 20-something American girl in the city of love." - Global Living Magazine
Confessions of a Paris Party Girl is a delicious cocktail of the humor of Tina Fey, the candor of Amy Poehler, and the self-deprecating charm of Mindy Kaling. You'll feel as if you're chatting over a bottle of wine with your new best friend.

Confessions of a Paris Potty Trainer
Party girl Vicki has traded wine bottles for baby bottles. If she's up at 3 a.m. it's because of a crying baby, not a wild night on the town. From writing baby résumés to get into daycare, to racing down cobblestone streets to find a toilet for her never-gonna-be-potty-trained son, parenting in Paris is much harder than she thought. She heard that all French kids are well behaved… but clearly not hers! How will she survive motherhood in the City of Light?
Confessions of an Expat in Paris
A humorous glimpse of an American expat’s years abroad: enduring cheesy pick-up lines from French guys, getting seated in the “ugly” section of a chic Parisian restaurant, and chaperoning a field trip of 4-year-olds who speak better French than her. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll want to pour another glass of wine.

Laugh along with Vicki as she tries to see the humor in her new life. French kids don't throw food? Hers do! French kids are polite? Hers let out sonic boom farts in the elevator. Even her ever-patient French husband admits they’ll need a vineyard’s worth of wine to get through the potty-training phase. (For them, not the kids.)
Through deadpan humor and funny observations about daily life, Vicki shares the highs and lows of raising her family in Paris. Will she survive motherhood in the City of Light?
Fans of Pamela Druckerman's Bringing Up Bébé will be comforted to know that not all French kids are perfect angels. As a contributor to Jen Mann's New York Times best-selling I Just Want to Pee Alone series, Vicki doesn't hold anything back when spilling what it's really like raising kids.

Interview with the Editors
There are so many stories about Paris. What makes this book unique?
The charm of this short story collection is the variety of voices from people who, for the most part, have spent a considerable amount of time in the City of Light. Stephen Clarke, author of best-selling book A Year in the Merde sets the tone in the foreword, reminding us there is always more to write about Paris!
What types of stories will we find in this anthology?
From humorous essays to Paris love stories, this book has it all. There are foodie anecdotes, tales of family secrets and friendship, stories set at sidewalk cafés. That's Paris is perfect for those who have visited Paris or would love to one day.
After Hemingway and the Lost Generation, how does it feel to be a modern-day author writing about Paris?
Some of the stories in That's Paris are set in the same places featured in A Moveable Feast. Paris hasn't changed much in all these years! It still inspires us to write.
Motherhood is tough. You'll laugh or cry, so you might as well laugh.
I STILL Just Want to Pee Alone is the third book in the New York Times bestselling I Just Want to Pee Alone series!

We know that raising kids is hard work. The pay sucks, your boss is a tyrant, and the working conditions are pitiful – TGIF means nothing to a mother!

Interview with the Editor
We see some big names in Legacy: Regina Calcaterra, whose memoir Etched in Sand was a New York Times best seller; Kristopher Jansma (The Unchangeable Spots of Leopards), winner of the 2014 Sherwood Anderson Award for Fiction; Jenny Milchman (Cover of Snow), winner of the Mary Higgins Clark Award for best suspense novel of 2013—and that's just to name a few! How did you manage to assemble such a list of talented authors?
We were inspired by the #30Authors blog event hosted by The Book Wheel. So we thought, how about featuring the work of these authors in an anthology? We liked the idea of best-selling authors, award-winning authors and a few talented debut authors collaborating on a project. We invited them to participate, and to our delight, they were just as excited to contribute to such an anthology as we were to publish it.
Why the theme of legacy?
Words remain. And the writer's art is created through words. It seemed the perfect subject to explore through fiction and nonfiction stories. What is the meaning of life? How do you find meaning in life? Long after we’ve left this world, our legacy remains. Or doesn’t. Or remains only in the minds of those who knew us, those whose lives we’ve touched. Those we’ve written to, or about. What mark would you leave? How should people remember you? Should they remember you?
What sorts of tales will we find in the book?
Our writers wrote along a common theme, legacy, yet each author has a different take on the idea. You’ll find love stories, stories of family secrets, friendship and life-changing experiences, an on-the-edge-of-your-seat thriller, a World War II mystery and Holocaust remembrance, stories of mean girls, and a tribute to rock & roll. Legacy has something for everyone.
These tales of Wonder, Woe and WTF?! share a little glimpse into the lives of other moms, who are a lot like you. Through their tales, we’re reminded to savour the little things (like capturing extra morning snuggles), to let go of the stresses (they won’t be in that unfortunate phase forever), and to be grateful for the laughs that the unexpected brings (because laughing is better than crying and it may be the only workout our abs get!).
So shake up an easy-to-make martini, put your feet up (quickly, before the kids find you) and join us on our journey as we toast to the many clink-worthy moments that motherhood brings.
Shannon Day is a former bartender-turned-teacher. She’s now a story-maker, martini-shaker, and fun-times project undertaker. Find her at MartinisAndMotherhood.com.
