About the authors
Born in the Year of the Dragon, Vonnie Winslow Crist is author of award-winning short stories, poems, and books. An active member of the Horror Writers Association, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America, Society of Children's Book Writers & illustrators, and National League of American Pen Women - she taught creative writing for the Maryland State Arts Council for 10 years.
"The Enchanted Dagger" is a Compton Crook Award Finalist and Maryland Writers Association Book Award Winner. Both "Owl Light" and "The Greener Forest" are eFestival of Words Short Story Collection Award Winners. "The Greener Forest," "The Enchanted Dagger," and "Owl Light" were voted among the Top Ten books for Young Adults in the P&E Reader's Poll.
As an illustrator, she's had over 1,000 illustrations published in books, magazines, and calendars.
She is an avid JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis fan, and a firm believer in the magical world that surrounds us! A clover-hand who has found so many 4-leafed clovers she keeps them in jars, Vonnie is quite fond of Harry Potter & Hogwarts, The Hunger Games, A Song of Ice & Fire, Star Wars, Star Trek, and everything Faery!
McKenzie Richardson lives in Milwaukee, WI. A lifelong explorer of imagined worlds on the written page, over the last few years she has been finding homes for her own creations.
She loves all things books and recently received her master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences. She currently works in a public library, doing her best not to be buried beneath an ever-growing TBR list.

The characters were well done, and, being an animal lover, I especially liked that the wolf wasn’t the villain in this story. To avoid spoilers, I won’t say more, but it’s well worth the read. It tugged at my heartstrings and even brought a tear to my eyes, which is saying something for a short story!
