Warโ€™s Passion by Lia Davis
Book #1: Sons of War Series
Source: Purchase
My Rating: 4ยฝ/5 stars
My Review:

I think you all know I have a deep, deep love of all things dragon so coming across Lia Davisโ€™s Sons of War series was sort of an embarrassing squeak moment. Iโ€™ve now read each of the books twice and canโ€™t say Iโ€™m done with them. Hereโ€™s the lay of the land:

Gwen: Fifteen years ago, her parents were killed in an unprovoked attack by three men, one of which was able to shift into a large, black dragon. With high hopes for starting over, Gwen and her adopted sister, Elle move into a fixer-upper on the coast of Maine. Within just a few days, Gwen finds herself right back in the middle of her worst nightmare, surrounded by dragons. Unlike last time however, these dragons seem to be friendly.

Markus: ggggrrrrr!!! As the son of Ares, Markus and his brothers were literally born into violence. In the centuries since their birth, Markus and his brothers have been tasked by Zeus to watch over the Descendants, those half-mortal children whose other parent just happens to be a god or goddess. Meeting Gwen is the first time in centuries Markus has been glad of his assignment and if he is going to make her his mate, heโ€™s going to have to get her to trust him.

Garrick: aka Gary to those who want to piss him off. Garrick is 100% batsh&t crazy and is hell bent on bringing down the Olympian deities and his brothers. Oh, yes, Markus and crew are Garrickโ€™s brothers and Garrick will stop at nothing to see them all fall. Garrickโ€™s crazy sort of happened over night when his mate, Sophia was taken from him. In that moment, Garrick became convinced of his brotherโ€™s betrayal and hatched a plan to kill them all. In order to do that, Garrick has to collect as many of the Descendants as he can, unlock their bound powers, and get them to do his evil bidding.

The Descendants: Across the world are children and adults just like Gwen, half-mortals with gifts that were bestowed upon them by their other, Olympian parent. The gift(s) each Descendant has is dependent upon the identity of their Olympian parent. In the last great war, the Olympian deities discovered their descendants with unbound powers posed a serious threat to their existence and so, the Descendants had their powers bound and Zeus forbid the deities from having any direct contact with their offspring. Most of the Descendants, Gwen included, know there is something different about them but donโ€™t quite know the entire story. Garrick, being a Son of War does know the full story and desperately needs people like Gwen in order to pull off his ridiculously crazy plan.

The Bottom Line: Yeah, I love dragons to a disturbing degree and Lia Davis is only encouraging my obsession with her Sons of War series. Gwen is an interesting character and she becomes more so as she gains her powers but the real interest lies in the actual Sons of War. Markus and his brothers are all kinds of varied and angry, and hot. Though they are stick on Earth they have made the most of their time and become successful business men and protectors of their town. They have also spent their years on Earth looking for Garrick in order to stop his madness. As Gwen and Elle (and others) come into the Sonsโ€™ lives, and the Olympians are once again able to have direct contact with their descendants, the need to stop Garrick becomes critical. Warโ€™s Passion has loads of backstory, just the right amount of action and mayhem, some steamy naughty bits, and the promise of more awesomeness to come. For all intents and purposes, Warโ€™s Passion comes to a full and complete end but as you will see, the Sons of War story is far, far from over.

~ 3.5 War's Passion Stars ~

War's Passion is book one in the Sons of War series by Lia Davis.

This is my first time reading Lia Davis and I have to say I enjoyed War's Passion enough to go out and pick up book two Ashes of War. Theย author delivers anย interestingย spin on mythology, Demi-gods &ย goddesses, the Fates, and much more. I enjoyed the world building and concept created to weave anย intricateย tail.ย

We are given lots of information, but in a way that you don't feel bogged done with to much at once. The story moves along quickly. The romance is an insta-attraction, once the leads meet. Markus knows right away once laying eyes on Gwendolyn what she is to him. Gwendolynย doesn'tย understandย yet why she is drawn to him, the same type of creature that caused her parents deaths.ย

Markus Iย enjoyed. He's got the whole Alpha Male Leader vibe going for him, plus he's a sexy dragon. I'm a sucker for dragons. I have to say Iย wasn'tย very impressed with Gwen. She is running away and always scared. She's wimpy, but does getย herselfย together by the end.
ย
Gwen and Markus relationshipย felt forced. The believability wasn't their for me. Even with the soul mate thing happening. I think this had to do with Gwen. She was lacking as aย heroineย for me, but also her dragon issues where over the top; with her going intoย a panicย attackย wheneverย sheย seesย a dragon. So, for her to get over it and fall in love within 2 days with Markus, just wasn'tย believable.

I loved the secondary characters. All the brothers and of course the twoย lady's, one that is Gwen's sister and Ash who is a spy for the gods. The way the author weaves them into the story and also set's up two moreย potentialย mate hook ups, if they can figure everything out, was very much enjoyed. These secondary characters areย whatย made meย decideย to continue and pick up the next book. I really want to see what happens with them.ย

War's Passion delivers lots of action, adventure,ย intriguingย characters, and sexy dragon brothers. This was a good read and a nice start to the series.ย

This is a new series by Lia - Sons of War. It is about the sons of Ares, God of War, who were sent to Earth to keep peace - watching over the descendants to prevent more wars. I really enjoyed this story. Sometimes books that are more fantasy are hard for me get started with or follow or I get distracted by the explanations needed at the beginning. But this did not happen with War's Passion. The author balanced the new information I needed to learn to understand about the gods and dragons with a plot. The plot got me hooked right away and I wanted to keep reading to know what would happen next! And now a bit about the story...

After watching her parents brutal death at the hands of a dragon, Gwen has had a hard time coping. She knows she is a descendant of Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, and her best friend / adopted sister Elle is the granddaughter to Nyx, Goddess of Night, so the whole man turning to a dragon in her living room didn't make her crazy. But still she has had a hard time trusting people and dealing with panic attacks. After leaving a small town in Nebraska, she ends up in Maine and not with one dragon after her, but five dragons. Except these dragons are different. She doesn't fear them as she does the man who killed her father. She actually totally overcomes her fear, with lots of help from Elle and Markus and puts together a plan to avenge her parents death.

Favorite quotes:
- She shouldnโ€™t encourage him, shouldnโ€™t be allowing him to kiss her, to touch her. He was a dragon, the son of Ares, and dangerous. Yet, she wanted more of him. No, she craved more. It was crazy. They just met.
- Man, she was a mess when it came to Markus. She was also in jeopardy of losing her heart to the man, or having it broken into a billion pieces.
- she couldnโ€™t let her fears rule her. It was time she grew a backbone and stood up to the monsters.
- It wasnโ€™t good when love and war came together to visit.
- Why the hell did he have to be so complicated? One minute he was charming, the next he withdrew behind his internal walls.
- And nothing, or no one, was going to get in his way of having what he wanted.
- โ€œLove, youโ€™re a goddess. You were never normal.โ€
- "Itโ€™s not going to be easy. Iโ€™ll push you to your breaking point to prepare you."
- Iโ€™ll deal with you later. In my bed. Gwen met Markusโ€™s gaze as he spoke those words telepathically. Heat spread through her like wildfire. Biting her lower lip, she thought back to him, I look forward to it.

What a good read! Now if you think, you are going to get hot scenes every other chapter this is not the book for you. Now it has some but not as much as most shifter stories.

The characters are interesting and the storyline keeps you engaged. I like all that mythical God stuff and it is full of that. Gwen is wimpy at first, but she has been through a great deal, but she gets herself together and turns out to be a woman who knows what she wants. Markus is the leader of the dragons and he is typical alpha male, but nice.

There is lots of adventure and lots of side characters to write books about. All the dragon brothers sound interesting and I am sure will make good stories in the future.

Good read and good start to the series!

This is the first time I read a book by this author. The story mixes mythology with the paranormal. It also the love ( and attraction, can't forget about that ๐Ÿ˜‹) that grows between Gwen and Markus.
Gwen has been running for most of her life, trying to find someplace safe (her family
Was killed by dragons). Markus is a dragon shifter. He and his brothers are assigned by their father Aries to prevent a war between the gods and their brother Garrick (Garrick is gathering the descendants of the gods to form an army).
When she discovers what Markus is her first thought is to run. But if she wants to life her life, she must overcome her fear and be the person she's meant to be. A descendant of Aphrodite.
Markus is the perfect warrior. He shows no emotion in battle. That all changes when he meets Gwen. She brings out his protective streak. They need to work together to stop a war that could destroy the world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Great book on Greek mythology

I absolutely love books that the story deals with mixing Greek mythology and modern together. This book was a surprise, was not sure if the author would pull it off since most of what I have read from her so far was the Ashwood Falls series. If you love Greek mythology, Dragon shifters and magical creatures I would suggest giving this book a read, you won't be disappointed. I do look forward to the other brothers stories and I hope that she keep the momentum going forward. This was a story that I could not put my kindle down. It started sad but love how the heroine found her back bone and overcame her fears. Can't wait for the next story in the series to see what journey Lia takes us on. Try this book for those that love Greek Mythology mixed with modern day life, you won't be disappointed.

For a new series, this one is pretty good. The hero, Markus, is a dragon shifter from Olympus that was cast out and the heroine, Gwen, is a descendant from a goddess. It was an amazing new look at the paranormal world and has many twists and turns to find the answers and stop the bad guy. Markus and Gwen are soul mates and have to fight to be together. The book has action, suspense, good verses evil, and finding love. Overall, it is one heck of a book.
