We Are The Wolf: Wolfpack Book 1 Kindle Edition
With human colonies on 45 worlds and space stations in over a hundred different systems, serving with the elite Force Recon branch of the Extra Solar Defense Force is the most prestigious career anyone could hope for. Warfare is almost exclusively the domain of remotely operated drones, but when things go wrong, in space or on a colony world, the Off World Recon gets the call and they always come prepared.
Dean is a young man with plenty of prospects ahead of him, but when he gets selected for the most coveted job in the world, he jumps at the chance. Little does he know the rigors of training to become an elite Force Recon specialist or the dangers waiting for him in off-world tours of duty that sometimes last for years on end, but it’s always been his dream to charge into the unknown with a band of brothers, facing any threat to humanity’s expansion across the galaxy and etching his name into the annals of history. The only question is does he have what it takes to stand between the threats of the galaxy and the rest of the human race?
We Are the Wolf is the first book in an exciting new military space opera that will have you riveted from the very first page. Toby Neighbors reimagines what service in a militarized space force would look like and takes his readers on a roller coaster ride that introduces them to a whole new world of adventure. From training across the globe to missions in outer space, We Are the Wolf will capture your imagination and have you cheering for more.

The author had an excellent idea for a book, and then turned around and ruined that idea by writing the book. It is readily apparent the author knows little to nothing about the military and didn't bother trying to educate himself prior to writing it; and his concept of Heavy Armor is laughable at best. You do not load recon folks down like pack mules and then expect them to accomplish a mission, yet this author puts a turtle shaped shield on an infantryman's back and expects him to walk backwards towards the enemy, and did I mention a automatic flechette gun that only has an effective range of 200 ft. And another member of the unit carries 6 different weapons systems? The author violates so many hard learned, military principles in this work I lost count.
I had high hopes for this book in the first couple of chapters, and then the obvious ignorance of anything military kicked in. I kept reading it thinking it could not get any worse, yet it did. And the ending of the book was contrived beyond belief.
As I understand it this author is a success in another genre. He should stick to that genre. He clearly can not write about anything Military.
I read SciFi for one good reason, it's science and fiction. However I have issues with characters that start as a civilian and are turned into super soldiers in a month or slightly more.
Special forces are very hard to master unless we have an pre-existing military history. This story needed maybe a little help by the MC getting a nanite memory shot to have certain things come to reality. But going from civilian to lieutenant of a special force in 6 months naturally, a little hard to chew.
Alright, that's my issue but the book was very interesting in its development of the MC was presented very well, his fears are well founded and very acceptable not as weaknesses but hidden strengths. The story has several subplots and I enjoyed their development. Maybe the ending could have been drawn out a little more but I'll be getting into the series. Nice work, Mr Neighbors.
I was not expecting this, to find a book that is so well balanced in all areas. I came by this book by chance. I was looking of a great read that keeps your attention throughout, and haven't been finding it lately. Then I found 'We Are The Wolf' it's so behond what you'll expect, not only is all characters, whether minor or main character introduced ingaging and in depth, but all the dialog is ingaging and keeps your attention. Then we get to the plot, not only does it keep your attention throughout but is nether to fast or to slow. Rather being a story you can relate to, dream about, and most of all imagine yourself living it.
