All the stories are quick, exciting reads that quickly draw you in and by the end of the story you will want to read more by the authors in their various “universes.” Several of the stories are by authors whom I have read many of their books, but some were by authors I got to enjoy for the first time. Some of them had main characters that I am extremely familiar with, like Gracie Medicine Crow in Jonathan P. Brazee’s “None Left Behind.” This particular story filled in some details in the backstory of the “Ice Queen” that helped me better understand the character while also being an exceptional standalone story by itself. One set of stories, I will not say which ones, so I do not spoil it for anyone, had an incredibly unique twist to it I have never seen before in one of these anthologies (and I have read dozens in this genre) – two different authors told the same story from the perspective of two different main characters! Wow was that COOL:-> Even better the two stories complemented each other perfectly.
Soooo, I highly recommend this book on its merits alone as a thoroughly enjoyable set of exceptionally well written stories. If you are a military space opera or science fiction fan, like me, I recommend it even more. Now I must get back to reading because I have discovered several new authors I have not read before AND, this is a big-time bonus for me, I now know I like their work even before I buy their book:->
In particular, Sarah A. Hoyt's Scrubbing Clean and Griffin Barber's Leaving Paradise stood out. In both cases, I'm gonna have to look for more about these characters, they were that intriguing. The rest of the stories were good, but these kept me thinking days after I'd read them.
I couldn’t put it down, these tales were that good. I loved the different takes on what constitutes a job that a man, or a woman would do. Or, is there much of a difference?
Well worth the time…made me want more.
