Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Jim Henson's Sesame Street Muppets cavort cheerfully with people of all sizes, shapes and ethnicities in this rather humdrum effort to show the ways in which all people are the same, despite obvious physical differences. On alternate spreads, drawings imitating photos zero in on variations on noses, hair, mouths, skin, eyes and bodies, all "different" from one another. A turn of the page reveals all of the owners of these body parts interacting, alongside several lines of sing-song verse explaining how our noses, hair, etc., are "the same." Some of the rhymes are silly or forced; part of the explanation of skin reads: "Muscles and bones are wrapped inside it. / We all have blood and skin to hide it!" Even the affable Sesame Street gang can't enliven this mundane treatment of a significant subject. Ages 4-8.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for very small children - but who is the random monster?
By Lauren E. Higdal on July 28, 2020
My two year old loves this book. It’s a fantastic way to introduce very small children to the concept that not everyone looks like them. There are some great throwback characters as well that younger kids may not refognize (Barkley, the tweedle bugs, characters I remember from 30 years ago)

That being said, there is a weird devil looking (borderline scary-looking) monster, with yellow eyes and pointy, teeth who I don’t recall from Sesame Street at all. My son points to him every time he appears and says “who’s that??” Does anyone know who he is? I’d love to give my kid a straight answer.

Edit: I found out his name is Frazzle and his backstory is really sweet and falls right in line with accepting and being cool with physical differences. Nicely done, Sesame Street.

3.0 out of 5 stars Printed Oddly
By TM on April 20, 2019
Good book but it was a gift and words were oddly printed close to the top edge of the book. Quality control slipped on this book although the return with amazon was a breeze.

3.0 out of 5 stars Received Damaged
By Sophia Joy on January 21, 2019
Great book but received damaged. Box was fine so not sure how it happened. Be nice if they would start shipping things in size appropriate packaging. This little book came in a huge box.

Besides all that, I wanted a book I could read to educate my kids about different people and how we are all the same on the inside. Love it for that.
