4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read little book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 5, 2019
We enjoyed this little book (96 pages) by popular American author and Franciscan priest Richard Rohr, awarding it an overall score of 7/10
Rohr starts the Book by declaring its' objective as being to address the misuse and abuse of the Bible. He goes on over 4 short, easy-to-read chapters to chart the development of interpretative methods, outline the key aspects of biblical criticism and then to discuss what the Bible is not saying and finally how Jesus himself used the Hebrew scriptures of his time.
We particularly enjoyed this latter section with all the examples provided and we found this, along with Rohr’s discussion of subconscious biases of particular value.
If we had a criticism of the Book it would be that it’s presentation might lead some to assume it to be an elementary introduction when actually it is best appreciated by those with some background knowledge.
