Pros:
1. It is a really in-depth walk through of the same material covered at only a high level in the books I bought to compare it with. The all-in-one books don't hold a candle to this book's depth, but you are only getting the pre-pregnancy perspective. So, this is expected.
2. It doesn't pretend to be super scientific and is more like a chat with a well-informed midwife. The authors opinions are general and fun. However, the style doesn't make me think it was meant to be published in a scientific journal, if you know what I mean. So, I give it more leniency than I would some other books that I've purchased.
3. I enjoyed reading it.
Cons:
1. What is it with nonfiction writers in the medical field forgetting to cite their material? Readers deserve to have the sources you used to form your opinions and advice! Please do better in the future.
2. There aren't diagrams or other visual means of communicating the data. Although the data is given well in text form. Some of the data would have been better conveyed with visuals. An example would be the viscosity of CM visualized at different stages or a nice pie chart of the full cycle to go along with the descriptions.
3. The 8 empty charts in the back are really complex, which is great. However, it would be nice to have a more simplified version for ladies not taking all of those tests/measurements and just focusing on the high level details marking the different phases of the cycle. As it stands, I'll probably never have cause to use the charts provided. So, maybe do 4 detailed ones, and 4 simplified ones in your next edition.
Summary: An in-depth and levity filled walkthrough of pre-pregnancy experiences that really should have cited their claims. :)
1. what are necessary changes that need to be made.
2. What are some things that should be done prior.
3. What to do when things don’t go as planned or when you are faced with some milestones.
So on and so forth..
This book is good for people with pcos, endometriosis and other hormonal issues who feel or fear the struggles of trying to conceive. And the best part is, you don’t need a medical dictionary to read this book. The book reads like a simplified visit with your ob-GYN. Very easy to understand language and as though you are actually having a conversation (being spoken too.) I would personally recommend this book.
That said, if, like me, you were thinking, "Maybe I'm just not sure about getting pregnant because I need to educate myself!" and plan to read it in one sitting, don't get this book. Being a manual, this guidebook will cover all the good things, but also ALL THE HORRIBLE THINGS THAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG, and in one sitting it's exhausting and nerve-wrecking. If you're in 100%, you might feel assured having all these helpful checklists and reminders and vocabulary lists, but, if not, you might end up feeling even less ready and a bit unnerved.
