A stunning novel from Lucy Dawson - what happens when good friends turn bad....
Alice's life has become a bit boring lately. Her friends are busy getting married and having babies, but she's not ready for those changes in her own life - not even sure she still loves her boyfriend.
Then she meets Gretchen. A brand-new, fun and unencumbered friend. Gretchen knows how to have a good time, and she also has a totally gorgeous brother. Before she knows it, Alice has been swept up into her new best friend's world. But Gretchen has a dark secret. Will Alice learn the truth before she throws her old life away?

many traits of Borderline Personality Disorder. She is a destructive force who unleashes her poison into everything she touches . I felt terribly sorry for Alice and Tom, even Bailey towards the end. Her brother will always be her sacrificial lamb and had no chance of ever maintaining any semblance of a normal relationship. I have personal experience of Borderline Personality Disorder and Lucy Dawson really does capture the devastation it causes. This was more than chicklit - a psychological thriller with a pathological liar at its heart who, like a black widow, devours her prey. It is a dark story about control and chaos . Compelling.

This was a brilliant read and the only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I don't like loose ends in novels or movies, I prefer to know what happens next and unfortunately this ended just too abruptly for me and I was left wondering what would happen to each of the characters and their various relationships in light of Alice's confession.

"What My Best Friend Did" was a story about Alice, bored with life and wanting something more. She meets Gretchen, a real character with a vibrant energetic life and they soon become best friends. What Alice doesn't know is that Gretchen is a manic depressive - manipulative manic depressive at that.
This was a fast paced read and I got through it relatively quickly but I'm a bit confused as to why Gretchen's illness was never referred to as Bipolar Disorder. I kind of got the impression that sticking with the 'manic depression' label added drama and scandal to her illness which I didn't like.
