From the Publisher
MATTHEW PAUL TURNER is a blogger, speaker, and author of sixteen books, including the best-selling When God Made You and When God Made Light Matthew, his wife, Jessica, and their three children live in Nashville, Tennessee.
A mother with wide, emerald eyes cradles her blanketed infant: “from the moment I saw you,/ I started to pray./ Big prayers and small ones/ I have sent God’s way.” As the child grows from a baby to a girl, the mother is encouraging yet watchful: “I pray you grow strong, have passion and fight./ And stand up for what’s good with all of your might.” Barnes’s ebullient artwork shows the child at a pool party, reading to her peers in a book nook, and playing in a band. A final spread shows that the child has not yet grown up; instead, the mother holds her baby on a hilltop under a gentle sky, projecting a life to come. New moms will welcome the wistful tone and scenes of a child’s joyful discoveries. Ages 3–7. (Feb.)
In this cheerful, reflective rhyming children’s picture book, author Matthew Paul Turner shares a parent’s prayer for a child to grow up in the love and light of God: “I pray you love well.\ That the light in you swells.\ That the story God writes is the one that you tell.” The parent prays for the child’s joys, achievements, fears, and dreams, reminding the child, “When I pray for you, I imagine God’s view\ And pray all that God sees comes alive inside you.” Turner’s hopeful, encouraging poetry is complemented by illustrator Kimberley Barnes’s pictures of vivacious, ethnically diverse characters and bright, buoyant settings of home, playground, nature, and more. When I Pray for You would make an excellent gift to parents of newborns and to children at the time of their baptism. (WaterBrook, 2019)

My granddaughters literally argue over who gets to be the little girl on the cover when I read the book to them. This book is sure to be a family favorite for years to come.
I really appreciate that the first line says, “From the moment I saw you,” not “from the day you were born” making the book easily relatable for all children and mothers, regardless of how they came to be a family.
I dare you to read this without getting teary-eyed!
I love this book SO MUCH, as do my 3 daughters.
This will be my go-to book for baby showers, mentees and friends. Also perfect instead of a Valentine card or Easter card for older kids!
We all pray for our kids; this book expresses heartfelt prayer for our kids in the sweetest way!
From the very first word my tears started to flow and they stayed and they worsened as the pages kept going. Looking over at my children as I choked through each phrase I saw two in tears because their Momma was so moved and one little one who kept asking, "Do you need a kiss?" What a sweet moment in time when they took on the role of comforting ME!
Needless to say, this will be a very special book that will be brought out many times for years to come. I'm quite sure I'll cry every time I read it because time is a cruel, cruel thing and I see it flying by so quickly. Each time we read it together it will hold a new meaning to that moment we will be currently navigating.
Beautiful job, Matthew Paul Turner. Thank you for following the Lord's leading and allowing Him to pen this beautiful story through you. It speaks volumes to many parents and on behalf of all of us, thank you for putting into words what we just couldn't do.

I'm hoping my daughter will be more interested as she gets older but at this point it does not hold her attention at this time. I'm not giving up on it but it's going to be on our shelf until she gets older.
The illustrations are well done and beautiful
