Brianna Caplan Sayres used to tell her second graders, "When I grow up, I'm going to be a writer." "But you are grown up, Mrs. Sayres," her students would protest. Well, Brianna is still not quite sure she's grown up, but she has grown into a writer. She is proud to be the author of the bestselling WHERE DO DIGGERS SLEEP AT NIGHT? series (Random House) illustrated by Christian Slade. Brianna is also extremely excited about her upcoming picture books about outer space, including ASTEROID GOLDBERG: PASSOVER IN OUTER SPACE (Intergalactic Afikoman) illustrated by Merrill Rainey and NIGHT NIGHT, CURIOSITY (Charlesbridge) illustrated by Ryan O'Rourke. Brianna now lives in her hometown, Seattle, Washington, where she and her husband are kept busy by their two future astronauts. You can visit Brianna at her playground on the web at www.briannacaplansayres.com .

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Christmas addition for the vehicle-obsessed toddler
By Stetson and Megan Jenkins on October 28, 2021
My first exposure to the "Where Do ...." series was Where Do Steam Trains Sleep at Night? I found it at the thrift store and picked it up because my nearly 3 year old son is obsessed with all things vehicles -- planes, construction, trains, cars, busses, you name it, he loves it. We quickly realized that we had to read the others and I was able to get them all at the library. They're all fantastic and a cohesive group of books. If your kid loves things that move, I'd recommend checking out all of them. My one issue is sometimes the language used (my son calls it a blanket, not a blankie, so I just change the words as I'm reading the book to fit what he knows as the word) and there are a lot of contractions used in the series which I appreciate when books use full words to kids who are just learning the language.
Moving on to this book specifically ... we celebrate Jólabókaflóðið (Jolabokaflod or flood of books) -- the Icelandic tradition of gifting books on Christmas Eve and reading them while sipping hot chocolate -- so this is this year's pick. My son turns three in December and he is obsessed with this series. He's going to love it, and since he's still kinda hard on books and we also have a 1 year old, we decided to go with the board book version. It's the perfect size and length, the illustrations and story line are the same cadence, tone, and style as the rest of the series and it perfectly hits on all of the highlights of Christmas without being overly toned on any one subject. Santa and Santa related things is definitely the most mentioned and there is a hint at the nativity scene but no mention of Jesus for those of you who may not be religious.
The trucks mentioned are: diggers, cherry pickers, forklifts, cement mixers, cranes, tanker trucks, tow trucks, tractors, food trucks, and zambonis.
TL;DR: if you have a truck enthused kiddo and love a good Christmas book not focussed too much on any one theme, this is a perfect book. Our son is going to love reading this one for the holiday season.
My book was not damaged or bad quality in any way as some reviewers have stated. I do notice maybe the slightest bowing in it but nothing noticeable that won't work itself out by countless times reading and storing on a shelf between other books.
