It seems to be very trendy to solicit books instead of a card for baby showers these days and this is my "Go To". Every time. It actually annoys me to see someone else bring the same book to a shower. That's how much of my "go to" it is. I feel selfishly possessive like I wrote it myself. I loved his books when I was younger, I read them to my own kids, I pass them on for others... You should do the same. Unless you're going to be at a shower with me.

If you have never read Where the Sidewalk Ends, you've been living in a cave. A sad, empty, dark cave. This book instantly takes me back to childhood. It is so fun! From the silly and sometimes touching poems to the ridiculously laugh-out-loud illustrations. It never gets old. Shel Silverstein was a genius. Perfect for reading with kids. Everyone should own a copy.

Got this book because it was one of my favorite and most memorable as a child and I wanted my son to enjoy. He enjoyed the funny poems as much as I did. I want to get him Light in the Attic and Giving Tree too. Binding and printing are excellent and it's a nice hardcover that should last for years. If you haven't read a Shel Silverstein poem book (or if your children haven't) I recommend starting with this one or Light in the Attic. They both have awesome fun poems. Where the Sidewalk Ends is the first one I read way back in the late 1980s and was quickly followed by Light in the Attic and I have remembered bits of some of the poems ever since.. they were that good (and funny) to me as a child. The illustrations (also by the author) are fun too and will be enjoyed. A great gift.

I've been waiting for my children to get old enough to enjoy Silverstein, and we've finally made it!
My (almost) 5 year old loves this book. We read 4 or 5 poems together every day before bed. My 2 year old could care less about the silly poems and Shel's wit, however.
I love it!

This is a timeless book. I still enjoy reading it from my copy I received when I was 7 years old. This is my go-to gift for any future mom's at baby showers. It'll last a lifetime time, they'll read it to them for bed time stories, the child will eventually read them by themselves and then it can read and enjoyed as an adult. I highly recommend this book and others by the same author.,

I had three baby showers in the span of one month and I gave the same gift to all three. I gave them Falling Up, Where the Sidewalk Ends, and A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein. My dad would read these books to my sisters and I before bed. I take these three books, tie them up with some nice string and a tie it in a bow (no wrapping paper) and put a card on top. These books were a complete hit with all three soon-to-be parents and everyone else in attendance. Such a great book!

I bought this for my very creative Granddaughter who is borderline genius and has some compartmentalism problems. When she opened her Christmas gift, she instantly fell in love with it. I hadn’t realized my daughter had this book tucked away from her childhood (which is why the title seemed so familiar). What’s funny is their other Grandma bought our oldest Granddaughter the same book, and she loved hers just as much.

Shel Silverstein is masterful at writing poetry. That being said, I don't tend to like poetry and there are many poems in this book that I am not a fan of. Those that I do like, however, are some of my very favorites and make me laugh everytime I read them. As a teacher and a mom, I like having a copy of this book at home and in my classroom to share with my students (Kinder and up) and my own children when we need a laugh.
Highly recommended!

I purchased this book back in the late 70’s for my daughter...........I just loved the drawings and the poems I just loved reading to her...........she too fell in love with the poems too.........I lost the book as I had given it to someone to borrow???? It was never given back ! With all that was going on in our lives? So when I was looking for a book on poems......there it was on Amazon.......they said I would receive the book sometime in January 2021..... but good old Amazon delivered the day before Christmas........I gave it to my daughter for her to read to her 2 girls. I cannot say how pleased to have this book back on our shelves once again

Clever and entertaining

Absolutely brilliant book of poetry for children but I loved it too. The author has an amazing grasp of the English language and knows how to entertain and amuse. I read this to my children when they were young and, because I couldn’t bear to part with my copy, bought another copy for my son to read to his children.

Shel rules!

I can't add anything to what others have said about the author, either for geriatric hippies (Freaking at the Freakers' Ball) or kids (Where the Sidewalk Ends). A more empathetic, loving soul you will not meet in many a days' long march.

I've been searching for this book for a long time. I wanted it as a gift for my daughter. She read it at school and never forgot it. Needless to say she was over the moon with it. I would definitely recommend this book.

I have loved this book since 1975! Shel Silverstein was an amazing writer. Couldn't resist buying a copy as a stocking filler for my 7 year old granddaughter. Have not seen this particular book as it was dispatched directly to her home in the UK. But I have no doubt that she will love it! Delivery I am told (by my daughter) was very fast and package arrived in perfect conditon. I am sure that I will buy many more of these wonderful books for her.
