My pastor had recommended the book "Is God on America's Side" by Erwin Lutzer and when I was searching for it I found this book. As a Deacon in my church you are often confronted with the hard questions of life. Skeptics often use the hard questions such as this as a defense for not believing in God. If God is so good then how can .. and you can fill in the blank. The reason for disasters whether natural or man made are hard to understand and this book gives some good insights. Too often people will consider them as judgments or the wraith of God because of sin, yet we must be careful because God's motives and operation are way beyond some of our understandings. Job is perhaps the best example and I think one of the reasons God gives us His perspective in the book of Job to help us understand the sometimes seeming randomness of calamity. In the end I can highly recommend both of these books. I first heard ERwin Lutzer speak at an apologetics conference in Charlotte, NC. I've been a big fan ever since. I sometime get to catch his sermons on the radio when I am visiting relatives out of town. I believe you can also down load his mp3 from the Moody Bible Church on line.
Erwin Lutzer always delivers a clear, Biblically-based response to problematic issues. This book was recommended to me at a disaster relief training seminar and I was not disappointed. He gives realistic but compassionate answers to some of life's most difficult questions. This is a brief book, but very meaty. It helps to read it with a Bible close by to look up the many scriptural references. Although the questions are difficult, Lutzer's answers are neither glib nor overly tedious. This is one of the few books that gives a sensible, yet caring response to a subject with which many people struggle.
Dr. Lutzer is an excellent Theologian and puts the cookis on the lower shelf where we all can grasp the subject matter. I walked away with a better understanding of why things happen and how a Christian should respond to natural disasters! I'm on my 2nd of two other books I downloaded!
