Really glad I didn't pass this by as I almost did. I would have missed a great movie.

I almost passed this by since I had purchased Olympus Has Fallen last year and they seemed so similar but I am glad I did. While dealing with the same basic theme this is an entirely different venue. It is a good movie and I actually watched it twice on back to back days it was that good. This is one of those that will find it's way out every 3 or 4 months for another viewing.

The action was good, the cast excellent, and the real life struggles and issues believable. The character portrayals were excellent and each actor/actresses excelled in their role. The decisions made by the cast were believable and realistic making the movie more realistic. None of this pie in the sky last minute radical off the wall improbable decision.

Even with the violence this is a good family night movie if you have slightly older kids. The President, SS lady, the dad and Emily all performed as befitting their roles in the movie. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves action films. You will not be disappointed.

Suspenseful, Action Packed Movie!!
Verified purchase
This movie is one of my husband's favorites. He likes suspense and lots of action! It's about the greed, manipulation and murder by the mastermind of one man who uses his power as the Speaker of the House to try to become President. In the Capitol Building, the Vice President is informed of the situation in the White House and was put on a plane for his protection. But the invaders gained control of the Department of Defense computers then fired a missile and blew up the plane. The coup started in the White House their objective to capture the President to launch nuclear weapons. A potential Secret Service Agent, a Capital policeman and his daughter were touring the White House but springs into action to save his daughter and protect the president from the armed paramilitary invaders. His daughter flags an incoming of Fighter Jets to abort their mission to blow up the White House because everything was now under control inside. Without giving anything else away my husband recommends this movie!! Enjoy!!

No stars - just Pooh emojis for this stinker. 💩💩💩💩💩

Yuck!!

They Hollywoodized the hell out of this. It was way beyond disbelief. Secret service totally corrupt - our armed service people... totally inept... blah blah blah

The writing is so awful - Jamie Foxx made a likable character as president tho.

It got so cliche - I almost turned it off. They literally included a bit telling the young daughter of the hero in all this (Magic Mike) that her upload to YouTube helped save the day and OMG can you believe how many Views - YAY!!!

Ugh.... Meanwhile the White House is burning smoldering heap in heap in the background

Maggie Gyllenhal really needs to skip the “strong woman” roles and stick to RomComs. She was terrible as that character. Barfo

If I could rate it in pooh emojis - this stinker would easily get a 5 💩💩💩💩💩

Didn't always take itself seriously which is the film's saving grace
Verified purchase
The head of President Sawyer’s (Jamie Foxx) secret service detail Martin Walker (James Woods) wants revenge against Sawyer for the death of his son. He decides to lead a group of mercenaries into the White House to try to kidnap the president. The only thing standing in his way is police officer John Cale (Channing Tatum) who was interviewing for the secret service that day. Yeah, it’s ridiculous, but that’s Hollywood.

There are some light notes to the story which are a good touch. John takes his daughter Emily (Joey King) with him to the job interview because she is a government nut. After she blurts out a bunch of facts John asks her if she gets picked on at school. Another time they run into the president during a tour of the White House. She claims her dad is going to be part of his secret service detail. The president shakes John’s hand, pulls him close and whispers into his ear, “Stop lying to kids.” The humor which keeps up throughout the film saves it from being your routine action flick. That’s especially true for when the shooting starts which sometimes goes over the top. In the end that’s the saving grace of the movie. The tongue in cheek approach shows that it didn’t take itself entirely seriously.

Great movie!

This movie is a lot like Olympus Has Fallen with Gerard Butler. Channing Tatum's Character is trying to become a secret service agent and he's not doing well. His daughter is so proud that he doesn't have the heart to tell her he wasn't accepted into the program. Then they run into the President, Jamie Foxx's character. The daughter tells him that her dad is gonna be a secret service agent and he tells the dad to quit lying to his daughter. Then terrorists take over the White House and Channing gets separated from his daughter. He spends the movie trying to rescue her, the President and the other hostages. My dad didn't like this one, but my Husband and I did, so to each their own. Personally, I think it's a great movie and I don't think that any action buff would regret watching it.

AS AN ACTION FILM THIS IS TERRIFIC

NO QUESTION THIS DOES JUSTICE TO THE GENRE. CHANNING TATUM LEADS THE WAY TO SALVATION AS A REJECTED POLICEMAN WHO
APPLIED FOR THE SECRET SERVICE AND WAS INITIALLY REJECTED. AS FOREIGN MERCENARIES STORM THE WHITE HOUSE, CHANNING IS
DOING HIS THING TO SAVE THE WORLD, AS HIS TEEN DAUGHTER RUNS LOOSE ALL OVER WITHIN THE WHITE HOUSE. MANY FAMOUS
ACTORS ARE IN THE FILM, AND IT WAS REDONE SEVERAL TIMES WITH GERALD BUTLER, WHO WAS A REAL LIFE ATTORNEY, AND DID A BIT
MORE IN THE WAY OF CREDIBLE ACTING, AS THERE WERE QUITE A FEW ......HOLES......IN THE PLOT. UNFORTUNATELY THE QUANTITY OF
BIG NAME ACTORS DID LITTLE TO SOLVE THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCTION. THIS WAS A TOTALLY VISCERAL FILM EXPERIENCE. STILL,
BESIDE THE TOTAL VERACITY OF THE MOVIE BEING IN DOUBT, IT RECEIVES AN.........A.........FOR EFFORT. TRY TO VIEW THE TWO REMAKES.

Movie is Great! DVD, Not So Much :(

I love this movie and have seen it several times. Decided I wanted to own the DVD. The only thing the DVD will give me is an Add to Your Ultraviolet Collection window for which every link tries to take me to a non-existent web site by Sony Pictures which times out every time.

No option to get to the movie itself or any menu items pertaining to the movie. That right there is the only reason for the single star.

If I knew more about DVD movies, I might be able to go to the DVD itself and start the movie menu, even though I shouldn't have to. Sadly, I do not.

I have contacted Amazon customer service and they are sending a replacement DVD (arrives tomorrow) but I have little hope that things will change. If things DO change, I will update this review.

Edited to add: I got the second DVD and it does the same thing. Called Amazon customer service and they credited my account. Ordered the White House Down/Olympus Has Fallen combo DVD instead. Wish me luck.

Pretty darn good action flick
Verified purchase
Fast paced action flick with a few annoyances that really didn't take away from being very entertaining. The president should've been played by a more mature looking and sounding actor, he wasn't very presidential. There was a skinny beatnik geek bad guy who attempted to put humor in, he didn't fit as none of the other bad guys had any kind of humor to them. Lastly, there's a bit of preachiness about war in general with the smell of politics to it, completely unnecessary. The girl was quite believable, you could feel that she was scared out of her mind, but strong. The good guy was pleasant and didn't do anything that was totally out of the realm of believable. Worth a 2nd watch if I'm in a similar-movie mood.
