Highlights for me:
“Mumble Man” by James A. Moore is my favorite. It’s a scary story in a contemporary setting. It’s almost plausible which makes it that much scarier.
“Carving Grace” by Kristi Petersen Schoonover features a young couple in love in an isolated fishing village. Together they must deal with a local, frightening legend. The writing is polished, the story gut-wrenching. I loved it.
“Lavinia, The Traveler” by Patricia Gomes is a poem that hints at vampirism. If not physical vampires then emotional. The poem rages and struck me hard.
“Kobold” from John C. Foster not only taught me what a kobold is, but also took me for a fun scare-ride.
I found the other stories well written and clever or exciting or freaky. Of course I liked some more than others, but I didn’t dislike any. This is a solid anthology!
I read Wicked Creatures through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
