Can he make this moment last a lifetime?
It’s been three years since Padraig Collins lost his wife and since then, he’s been sleepwalking his way through each day, focusing only on work and family, while hanging out with his best friend, Emmy.
The sum equivalent of Emmy’s experience with relationships is contained within the pages of the romance novels she writes while sitting at the end of the bar at Pat’s Pub. That is if she doesn’t count the secret crush she’s been harboring for Padraig since the first day she laid eyes on him.
When Padraig realizes he’s in love with Emmy, they fall into each other’s arms. However, adversity strikes and Padraig–terrified of loving and losing again–foolishly pushes Emmy away. It will take the combined romantic efforts of the entire Collins’ family to help him win the heart of his best friend…and his second chance at happily ever after.

Sadly, this is the ending to a wonderful series that has for the most part taken place in Baltimore, Maryland. (I think Mari needs to open up a pub like the Collins clan has here in Maryland but not in Baltimore but a smaller town.)
The Collins clan has been through quite a bit. Padraig aka Paddy has shut his heart off from loving after the tragic death of his wife. He is living but just going through the motions of living. His family is concerned about him but he isn't willing to allow anyone in to help or care for him.
Emmy is a successful romance writer at a fairly young age. But she started writing to keep her head above water while dealing with a pretty bad homelife growing up. She was able to support herself on her writing after graduating from high school but it has been a struggle at times. Although Emmy writes about wonderful relationships, she personally has yet to have one. She hides that her parents are dead and that her only sibling is an prison. She also hides that she is in love with Padraig.
Emmy found the pub owned by the Collins family near her apartment and became a fixture there on the bar side. She writes her novels on her laptop and has become a part of the larger family. She has also fallen in love with Paddy. But she keeps this a secret because she is aware of Paddy and that he has shut himself off from living. Friendship is what Emmy and Paddy fall into and when things change and Emmy is no longer a part of his daily life, Paddy realizes things have to change.
This starts Paddy's path back to the land of the living. Although being a novel by Ms. Carr, this path is filled with struggles, backsteps, and bumps but Emmy is there to help him along the way. (But Paddy does make it back to the land of living fully.) Both Emmy and Paddy both have pasts that influence how they react and make decisions. In other words, they are human. They struggle with things. But immersing yourself into this wonderful novel is worth it. It is a great escape but it also makes you stop and think about the choices you yourself make each and every day.
But I am still upset that Ms. Carr dared to end this series, although she has a new one starting over the winter where I am sure we will see many of the characters and personalities from this series popping into and influencing how those plots twist and turn.
Paddy had his chance at love. It was wonderful, amazing, beautiful, and perfect. It was also fleeting, and over way too soon. Now he is left with memories, of a bittersweet time. Paddy had love, and doesn't think he will ever be open to that again.
Emmy has had her share of heartache, spent more than her fair share of time alone. But a chance walk into a family pub led her to a second family, that would fill a hole in her heart. She has watched Paddy, over the years, deal with his pain. But what happens when you have feelings that the other person doesn't feel in return?
This book is emotional. There were a few tears, but mostly it was hope that I felt while reading it.
Hope for second chances. Hope that love will conquer everything. While this book is it's own story, it is also a continuation of Wild Devotion. Paddy loved, and lost, and then watched the rest of his family find their HEAs, while dispensing his own quiet advice when it was needed. Wild Chance is his ultimate chance for happiness and the future that he deserves. This book was everything I could have imagined for Paddy and Emmy, and so much more! A perfect finish for the Collins Clan!
