I am a huge fan of Ringo Lam's movies, but this attempt to mix human interest with a stereotypical Hong Kong gangster drama contains far too many clichees, even including the hot-head cop who is disciplined for going after the big-time gangster, and the hit man who mounts a vendetta at the hot-head cop. And, of course, a cute four-year-old girl who bonds with the cop. The pace is often slow, and there's barely a trace of the ruthless realism of "School on Fire," let alone the intensity and cynicism of "Full Contact." It's hard to believe that the director really wanted to make this movie.
