''Nickie snorted, smirked, -there is a lot of smirking going on- Emilie barked out a laugh, Laura smirked, Emilie shrugged, then Nickie shrugged before they both snorted'.........and so it reads chapter after chapter while the story doesn't progress, remains bogged down in a lot of meaningless nonsense, interaction between the three sisters.
The main story, which I was actually interested in, is buried under so much unnecessary chatter , which is a shame because it is actually a interesting and new concept worth exploring. But this writer falls way short. Her focus is misdirected by trying desperately to make us like these characters, trying too hard, almost as if she doesn't actually know them herself. And in this narrowed picture the actual story is lost, forgotten. The story about magic, witches who possess this magic, and a monster wanting the magic for himself, will kill for it, these and other fae left a star system, escaped their home, boarded a space ship which they built, which is actually Earth, and a smaller sized ship which is Austin, Texas, the monster was discovered and put into a prison, where he has been held for the same time as the age of earth - since the ship is earth - 'yea, well', it was accidentally released by one of the sisters, it now is running loose in Austin, possessing humans body and, hunting witches and giving Nickie migraine headaches because she is hearing loud drums when he is nearby. Yeah, lots of things seem very important for the story yet they are barely touched on just sort off dropped into a scene. It's not my job to figure out what the writer was thinking.
Almost no background details to the story itself is given, except for a few snippets here and there, confusing the story, eventually the story doesn't make sense. anymore. We get a teaser here another there, all in short pieces squeezed between pages and pages about the three sister, their irritating characters and boring personalities, full details on their everyday lives and yes we get much on just how smart and talented they are, very little about the important details to the story as a whole. The why, what and what-for, the meat and details on the actual story, that we learn in small and often confusing bites, making it difficult to form an understanding on the concept to this story. I for one, after reading book one and two, yes I couldn't make myself read more, in fact I skipped many pages of senseless sister interaction, after book two I am at a loss as to the reasons for this story, is it about the sister witches, (i.e.Charmed?) or about something else, I have very little information to make this an interesting story, it has to be, larger than the day by day of three sisters.
Tell me more about this creature, tell me about the reasons why they escaped from their home world, tell me about the home world, how do you jump from a ship they built which just so happen to be our earth, and where did all the humans on earth come from if magic creatures built this ship and only thy boarded this ship?. Tell me how this ship earth has an escape capsule nobody knew about......and so much more. You can't just make up things that you the writer can't explain. Especially when you mix science fiction with fantasy, they have to make sense. Most readers know tons of facts about earth the planet and space ships, we can imagine so many crazy ideas, but if the teller of the story leaves out the foundation and important details of that crazy idea, we can't imagine it.
As I said, this is just bad story telling which makes little sense and because of that is impossible to imagine I have been reading fantasy for over seventy years and this just doesn't work for me, even if you removed all the fluff about the sisters. The hurdles this story has to jump over are are too high. I'm not going to waste another minute reading further, and it bothered me that I spent considerable time writing this review, because a writer should know what is needed to make a story special, not need me, the reader, to break it down for you. I always read the three star and lower reviews because they are usually the most honest. They are written, time spent reviewing the experience of reading a book, a series, this series, by readers who care, so that you the buyer of this Box Set and future books in this series by Martha Carr are aware that buying this set most likely won't bring you the reading enjoyment you are expecting.
All of the characters were fully fleshed out and I decided I wanted to be friends with them, just to hang out and learn.
This series was wonderful and surprised me with how it ended. I was not expecting the ending. I loved all the characters and how the story played out. It definitely should be on the list to be read.

I fell into reading these books by pure accident and am loving every crazy minute of it. Last year (the year that never happened, as I have decided that I went to sleep on 31st December 2019 and woke up on the 1st January 2021 🤣) I had run out of books to read on the Kindle, I just decided to download a bunch of different authors and one author led to another and so on, only to realise that I have been reading in a circle of excellent authors on a variety of different stories. I have also realized that I have only read 1 author from my original 10 but I am not willing to start on the other 9 until I have finished all the books in this collection and by these authors.
As I am housebound I have all the time I want to get around to finishing the books by these authors before I get to the next one on my list. Thank you for all your hard work in putting together a wonderful series and for all your other stories.
