I personally don't like when I can blatantly tell the author is making the characters do stupid things and make stupid choices to lengthen a series. In all reality, no matter what that reality or realm may be, every creature and every creation has survival instincts. When life or death is on the line those instincts kick in and we do what we have to in order to survive and protect our loved ones. Its nature.
These witches can cast some awesome spells with awesome magic but yet that is hindered through the authors attempts to lengthen the series and create angst. I liked that their magic wasn't hindered by much in the world Eva Chase created. There's technically not much their magic cant do. So when you have an author making characters do stupid things it is blatantly apparent and doesn't fit into the world the author wants us to believe.
I liked her relationships with her men and how easily she fit back into their lives. I say her because I can't even remember her name and I just quit reading the book and came straight to write this review. That should tell you a lot. The characters are not really remarkable or rememberable. But the magic is.
I found her men and some other things to be cliché. You have 1 bad boy 1 do gooder 1 mechanic 1 computer wiz ect ect. Total cliche.
When I read a book and characters are fighting for their lives with massive magical abilities i like to think wow that was a good idea they thought of to fight free and survive. I dont like to think bloody h*ll!!! Why don't they do this or why didn't they do that or if they were able to do that in the last book why can't they do this in this book.
But that doesn't take away from the love they all have from her. Their love is believable.
The villians are believable but its hard to believe that the lengths these villians have gone through for decades to protect what they are doing and their secrets does not cause as much death in the present. It did in the past. The reality Eva is that if this world were real people would die. A lot. Magical and non magical. That's 1 of the things that took this book from 5 stars down to 2. You can't have this much magic with this many villians and 1 person dies by falling off a cliff.
This book series is unremarkable. I probably won't remember anything about the characters by next week. I will however remember the magic and the fact that Eva Chase did create a world with witches that actually had some serious magic.
