About the author

Much like film noir, Justin Robinson was born and raised in Los Angeles. He splits his time between editing comic books, writing prose, and wondering what that disgusting smell is. Degrees in Anthropology and History prepared him for unemployment, but an obsession with horror fiction and a laundry list of phobias provided a more attractive option. He is the author of ten novels in a variety of genres including detective, humor, urban fantasy, and horror. Most of them are pretty good.

Each monster's weakness and proclivities makes sense in the world without feeling gimmicky, and Nick Moss continues to be that loveable meatstick solving crimes and dodging creepy suitors lurkimering outside his door at night.
I've been a fan of Robinson's work since City of Devils, and have gone on to read his other work (Mr. Blank, Undead on Arrival) - every one of them is a winner. Neo-noir in a time that never was; comedy when you need it and least expect it; one-liners to drop you dead; and a host of nods and homage paid to masters of the form (Chandler, Hammett, Leonard, Ellroy).
Putting this one down hurt because, like the previous two (City of Devils and Fifty Feet of Trouble), it ended. One of these days they'll invent a Justin Robinson book that puts the Energizer Bunny out of a job, and then you'll never see me again. I'll be nose down in the story until my last breath.
It begins with Nick Moss being hauled into the police station by his werewolf nemeses, officers Moon and Garou, and never lets up. Even at times when the action is more cerebral, there is still impending doom hanging over Nick (or those he cares about).
Nick sees how scary humans are, in more ways than one. We get to see more of Nick's backstory as it becomes relevant to the case at hand, and this makes the final revelations all the more bitter, all the more sweet.
While you'll get a deeper appreciation of events if you've read the other books in the series, Robinson's use of Main Character Nick Moss' snarky asides and internal monologue ensure the reader's never lost on what's going on. This is both a great addition to the series and an excellent place to start with the Post Night War World
This is a great mashup worthy of fans of noir, classic monster movies, urban fantasy and alternate history. Definitely check it out.
I continue to adore this series. It's like a weird little niche of noir/horror/mystery with a lot of humor thrown in. The world drags you in and the intriguing characters make you want to keep reading and learning more.
The mystery is really well done. The main character Nick has some hard decisions to make in this book and I can't wait to see what happens next.
In other words, if you haven't read this series you should because it's extremely absorbing and fun.
Looking forward to the next books
