I’m sure someone might read my review and say, “it’s just a silly story. Lighten up!” To that I ask, if the story was about a child rather than a donkey, would you still think it was a great book? No! Because that would be cruel. This book suggests to young children that this behavior is ok for anyone. I would give it another star if it concluded with a moral lesson, but it falls miserably short there as well. Disappointed that Scholastic chose to print it.
What if it was a recent amputee that hadn’t come to terms with their new reality or gotten comfortable yet with staring strangers? In my profession, I’ve come across too many combat vets, bone cancer survivors, diabetics, or vehicle accident survivors with an amputated limb to every be insensitive with “wonky”.

I should note that I purchased this without watching the video first and perhaps that would have changed my perception as many reviewers seem to note they watched the video before purchasing.
The quality of the book itself was not fantastic for the price either. They also used the word “smelt” instead of smelled...which is incorrect at least in North Anerica...not sure if this book was written elsewhere or if it’s a typo.
Overall I’m not really happy with the purchase but I suppose anything that gets kids reading is at least positive in some regards.
There are much better genuinely amusing books to buy with normal pictures or without any at all.
Grandaughter loves it...great illustrations, and the steady build-up of amusing descriptions ( Neighban instead of Rayban sunglasses...) and tougue-twisting repetitions causes great merriment...a work colleague finds the same, grandaughter rushes up to her at first sight saying..”Wonky Donkey Grandma..!!”
