Anyways, I will try not to spoil anything here, but I want to give my thoughts.
I think the subject matter is definitely dark, disturbing, and gross. That’s why I bought the book. I didn’t know it would have as much to do with women being in pain as it did, although the larger theme is not necessarily that. The books covers a lot of dark themes in general.
I think that it has a lot to say and yet somehow doesn’t flesh any of it out enough. It gets into ideas and topics that I think are interesting but the book is too short to really explore those things. I totally see what the author was trying to do with the overall picture of the book, but I think it feels rushed.
This may be surprising for those who have read or will read the book but I totally caught on to what was going on and what the ending would be around page 90 or so. Even though there’s a giant “twist” *wink wink* and it’s so insane that you really shouldn’t see it coming, I felt like the book was so nuts and weird that my mind immediately went to the most obscure and bizarre end possible, which is did. I know most good stories have foreshadowing, but in a book this far out there I feel like it’s disappointing that I somehow predicted the end without reading any spoilers for it.
I think the book overall isn’t as gruesome and gory as people have made it sound. I wouldn’t say I “enjoyed” it, more so was just captured by how awful the stories were, but it wasn’t a bad book in terms of the writing or anything. I just think it was rushed. Also the climax of each plot point/story felt really fast. Like, there wasn’t a lot of lingering on the actual horror or gore or disturbing material. I’d like to counter myself here by saying that the entire book has a dark and disturbing atmosphere, so yes that is lingered on throughout, but honestly the dark ambience isn’t nearly intense enough to sustain the horror throughout the novel.
Overall I think the author did a decent job. It’s a good short read to keep you up at night with a grimace and the urge to shower. But it was not nearly as rancid and awful as people made it sound, which, considering it’s all over horror book TikTok and being hailed as one of the most disturbing novels ever, was disappointing.
If you’re looking for a 5/5 on the messed up scale, I don’t think this is it. Are the things depicted in the book insane and disturbing? Yes. But they’re not detailed enough, or fully fleshed out.
I saw this book recommended on a horror TikTok I like to comb through, this one seemed the most interesting out of the bundle so I went for it first. Very short little novel, only like 150 pages, should be able to read in a day if you really like it and have the time. Man though I had to stop halfway through and continue a day or two later. The author is excellent at bringing his imagery to life through words to the point where it made me feel unwell. Not a casual read for most people who like horror novels, though it does say it's an extreme horror novel on the front so makes sense. I'm not lying when I say you think you'll know where the book is heading when it takes a sharp turn that'll make your face twist up while reading. Overall I recommend for extreme horror fans, but if you have any issues with triggering content in the realms of rape, death, drugs, abuse, abortion, organs being where they aren't supposed to, mutilation, etc. probably not for you. Don't eat a meal before this one.
As for why it's not a 5 star, sometimes it felt like things were put in less for plot and more for shock value. Also there are several misspellings in the book that an editor or someone reading over the preliminary copy should have caught.

Angel is a messed up man with a messed up past and Shyla is the unfortunate prostitute that came across him. He subjects her to very graphic, wild stories while spending their time together that ends in a fitting ending given the chapter names. Some pieces are kind of heartbreaking, but that's quickly masked by how grotesque each chapter is. I wouldn't say it gets worse as you go, but more of just a continuation of precedingly wild tales. I finished the book in about three days, but the abortion piece made me stop reading the first day through, it's a little tough to go past personally as I thought that was the hardest part to read in the book save the ending. If you read this far, hope you enjoy!
Another spoiler alert: this book will shock the hell out of you.
There is no way to describe this book, whether it’s the storyline or the minor details. It’s simply impossible to give a synopsis about this book without giving any of the story away, so I’m not going to even try. What I can tell you is that I literally tried to wash my eyeballs with some Dawn dish soap. This book is absolutely disgusting. From start to finish, it’s filthy. It’s also so well-written, you will find yourself unable to stop reading it. You will cringe, you will likely want to also wash your eyeballs with some Dawn, but you won’t be able to put it down.
I was blown away by how well-crafted the story is, and how well the writing sucked me in and wouldn’t let me go. This book is super short (thank goodness), but it packs a lot in a small suitcase. If you make the bold decision to read this one, make sure you’ve got plenty of time (I’d probably skip the snacks, just trust me) to sit and read the entire thing.

So with that in mind, I thought I'd take a look.
I've read a few of Matt's previous works and was fortunate (or unfortunate depending on what you may think of his work) to have met him recently, so I thought I'd give this Duncan fellow's book a try. I'd not read any of his previous work and to be honest how extreme was a book going to be when it's written by someone called Duncan? Someone named Duncan isn't going to surprise me, I thought; Duncan's the name of a guy that works in accounts somewhere and the most extreme thing he's ever done is leave work 5 minutes early.
Turns out, I was wrong and that Duncan has written something very dark and very bizarre and messed up; but I say that in a nice way as I just couldn't stop reading the damn thing and had to go through it in one sitting just to reach the dank and smelly conclusion - again, I'm saying that in a nice way.
The story centres on a chap called Angel and the full bodied “escort” named Shyla that he's invited to room 6 of the Lonely Motel. Now Room 6 has a lot of history behind it that we find out over the course of the story, as Angel fills Shyla's head with his tales; whilst simultaneously filling something else of hers with his assortment of rubberised accessories.
Over the course of the story we find out a little about each of the characters and their histories that led them to where they are now, and the whole thing is paced very well indeed; with the one thing that remains unclear throughout being what the end game will be. Not that you'll really be thinking too much about how it will all end as the backstories to each character are so engrossing, that you'll temporarily forget about what's going on in the motel room. In an odd way it’s almost an anthology with stories that are focused on the same couple of characters and a main arc that ties the whole thing together.
Now initially I did wonder why the book necessitated a 'black cover' as I didn't think it that extreme, sure there may have been some descriptive moments in there involving vomit and drugs, but nothing that made me think this was an 'extreme novel.' But, the further into the hole you go, the darker it gets until there's no way out, and as I said at the start; I just couldn't put the damn thing down and I just had to sit and read it until the end.
The story is extremely well written and although it certainly won't be to everyone's liking; (seriously, you do need to know what you're getting into here) this isn't just your run of the mill horror story although that being said, I wouldn't class this as horror, more of a very dark tale with horrific elements. However you may want to categorise it however, I thoroughly enjoyed it; although I'm not sure what that says about me.
The book is very good and the only problem with it I have, is trying to figure out who I can recommend it to amongst my circle of family and friends; because I'm pretty sure that most of them would avoid me if they read it based on my recommendation. Having said that however, I did mention it to a few friends last night and one of them thought that it sounded like it would make a great pop-up-book; I’m just not sure if the world’s ready for a book with a tab that operates a sliding coat hanger abortion and a ‘lift-the-flaps’ section that means exactly that.
So I guess it's all down to whoever reads this review now to know that I really do recommend that you read this book and even though I didn't personally find it shocking or disturbing per se, (at no point did I think that the author had gone too far, or that I needed to take a break from reading) by the time I'd reached the end I did fell as though I needed to somehow take my brain out and give it a bit of a wash.
Now I just need to read more of Duncan Ralston's work because if they’re anywhere near as good and well written as this, then I'm in for a real treat. Oh and if you do happen to know anyone called Duncan, keep an eye on them; they may seem like they're ordinary guys but there's possibly some strange things going on in their heads.

Well that was sick and weird!
I’m not sure what I just read but if you’re easily offended don’t read this. It’s 100% not for you.
If you want a content warning you can pretty much add everything you don’t won’t to read about and take that as your cue to avoid it but in a really odd way this book was enjoyable in the sense that I’ve experienced so you don’t have to.
This book is a novella, marketed as extreme horror. I’m not sure but maybe my idea of what extreme horror actually is was totally wrong. But to be fair in an ironic way it’s probably accurate because it was horrific but not in the sense you’d expect.
It’s beyond crude during sex scenes which I wasn’t expecting the main theme to be. It’s definitely not my idea of fun, it has full on porn that turned my stomach. I’m not easily offended but I’m pretty sure the author wrote the book for himself or he knows people it would appeal to as I’m not sure why he’d have even contemplated writing it. It has drugs, rock and roll and depravity all rolled up into a sick horror story that reminded me of a cross between Saw and one of those early 70s porn videos.
It’s horrific.
Do yourself a favour and avoid it.

Almost like an anthology movie in structure, a central narrative diverging into different vignettes, we meet Angel, a scarred man with issues, and the BBW hooker he hires. We then begin the descent into darkness, madness, and death. And it gets very dark, very fast.
I don't know if the author meant it to be funny in places, or if it's just my warped sense of humour, but I laughed out loud at some points, squirmed and could barely read on at others.
Sympathetic, if royally messed up, characters and exceptional prose take this to the next level. Highly recommended.

I have stopped reading extreme gore in the past, ofen because it has lacked any story other than gruesomeness. This isn't that. Nothing is gratuitous. Every sickening disgusting detail is absolutely necessary to the plot.
I figured out where the story was heading early on, but I didn't feel like I'd 'sussed it out', more that I was getting from it exactly what the author wanted me to at exactly the right time. The clues were laid out and I found myself squinting as I winced from the words of the story unfolding.
This is a masterclass in extreme horror told at exactly the right pace with exactly the right amount of gruessomeness to keep it real.
Highly recommended to those with an open mind and a strong stomach
