complex characters, fun read and romance

This sat on my shelf for a long time. It was a great read once I started. I loved BeLa calculating having to turn her head “25 degrees”, depending on the size of their noses. The brothers were great foils. It was nice to include the epilogue vignettes of Locke. I wasn’t sure anyone was that good.
The pacing of the romance was complex an refreshing. Usually, a writer has to make the romance “slow burn” or focus on a different character’s romance when one relationship is settled. This book did some of that. There are three brothers, after all, but the main relationship was always Clark and Addie, who were more complicated than slow burn. Clark being remarkable inept at pursuing a woman he likes was fun dialogue. Again, a fun read.

This entire series had me engrossed from book 1 and unlike many series, I was just as addicted at the end as I was at the start.

I love Mahle's balance of character development and plot as well as how each character really comes into their own through the course of this series and not just the main few characters.

Addie is the perfect blend of sheltered and strong, and Clark's rough and stoic ways perfectly compliment her. Gunther is, of course, absolutely adorable and perfect as is BeLa. Xavier, the Director, and the General are all wonderful side characters with nuanced motivations and development as well. And then my absolute favorite, Penn (or PeNelope). Her development, though she didn't play a huge part through much of the books, was stunning.

If you're a fan of YA fantasy/steampunk fantasy, I highly recommend picking up this series (and why not when the whole box set is so cheap?) and adding it to your TBR pile.

I absolutely adore this series, and knowing that it was coming as one set, I was beside myself with excitement! This series has everything: adventure, suspense, humor, and the perfect romance. It's not easy, and is so messy, but still perfect. You absolutely adore the characters the further along you go. Robin does a spectacular job with dual character POVs, and the story continues to flow seamlessly between the two. Occasionally, other POVs are sometimes sprinkled in as well, and again, don't detract, but only add, to the main story. Now, let's add in bonus scenes, and I'm a goner! You absolutely must read this series! You won't be disappointed! I highly recommend!

I very recently discovered this author and can't believe I've missed reading her stories for this long. This series is excellent. The writing is taut, with enough description to set the scenes but never too wordy. The story is unusual and exciting; plus it never drags. I like the varied points of view and each chapter is labeled with the character whose POV it will be so it's easy to keep track of things. The only thing that seemed not to fit here was the ages of the main characters. They seemed way too mature for 17-19 years old. But I was able to push that fact aside and just loved the series anyway. If you like fantasy and really well-told and edited stories with interesting characters, you'll love this series! Bonus that we get it all in one book.

Clark and Addie are stubborn and real and exactly how a couple should be portrayed in what I can only begin to categorize as one of the greatest series I've ever read. It's steam-punk post-apocalyptic romantic science-fiction...maybe. It's such a unique world and set of characters. I fell in love with all of them except the evil ones.
