It says not to read this unless you've read the prior installments, but I didn't listen, and I'm totally fine with that. If anything, reading this REALLY makes me want to start on the series despite being in the middle of a reading slump. There are a lot of good points made here that, as a new reader to this series, it makes me want to get emotionally invested in these amazing characters. It's a novella, but the whole thing was a little choppy reading-wise. It read more as a bunch of summaries with details that you might not have gotten had you read the previous installments. I'm not completely sure, obviously, since I haven't read the books, yet.

If you haven't read the series, I'm actually gonna go against what the book says and read it if you've been on the fence about starting. Of course, don't read it if you're one of those people who hate spoilers because- let's be honest -the whole point of reading this AFTER the installments is to avoid spoilers. But I actually ended up getting encouraged to get started after reading this. I want to know more, I want to dive back into the worlds that keep constantly changing. I NEED to know.

Cesar Hawke has always been a favorite of mine so to say I was excited to read this book would be an understatement. I was not disappointed! If you've read all of The Preternatural Affairs books (which you really should do before reading this book) you already know that Cesar & Fritz have a strange and somewhat complicated relationship. This story is sort of a summary of their relationship with some highlights that you may already know about & some behind the scenes (so to speak) that you have not heard before. It really helped pull the whole series together from how they met all the way through post Genesis times. It explains a lot, fills in some blanks & gives you a better understanding of their relationship. Another thing it did for me was to make me see Fritz in a different light. I have always loved Cesar from his days as an unknown witch to a powerful car Sidhe, but now I have more respect for him & I started to grow fond of Fritz! It was also nice to hear a few familiar names like Isobel & Suzy. Great story of unconditional love without being too sappy or traditional!

I loved this. Absolutely loved it. It gives the reader a look inside Caesar and Fritz's relationship from Fritz's point of view. It was heartwarming, fun, and I like Fritz just that much more after reading this. He has always been a bit of an enigma in the series but not anymore, you know exactly how he feels about Caesar. Great Holiday read that makes me maybe want to buy more shorts.

I have been waiting for this story. Fritz and Caesar were left on the edge of the end of the world. Now we know what happened. I love how all the books eventually tie together. The characters you love or hate come back and take on a whole new role. I am normally a werewolf type of girl but I have learn to venture into all kinds of preternatural. Can’t wait for the next.

I really wouldn't read this one.. you don't need to it's a prequel that doesn't provide anything relevant to the rest of the series.

I found this utterly unnecessary and if anything just written to gain some kind of pride points.. you had everything else, sexism, racism, preternatural beings, demons, angels, the end of the world so let's just shove the only thing we haven't yet covered.. LGBTQIA.. I personally find it offensive when it's written for the wrong reasons and this is not an integral part of this series which leaves me only able to believe it's been done for shock value or for some attempt at gaining an audience.. deeply disappointed.. you broke your entire series by making your character go from one extreme to another in a split second.. ten books to draw on that storyline and you add it like an afterthought without the requisite personality enlightenment..

We found out how fritz and Caesar met and their whole back story.
It was filled with the usual action that Ms Reine is known for with lots of interesting fact pertaining to both of the mens worlds from all the other books.

The characters are often flawed and quiet often have not very likeable traits but they do pull you into there world. I always hope they will get their HEA but with this author it is not a given.
