Heavy duty shop towel
Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2019
I use this all the time in the shop and around the house. I use this towel for heavy duty cleaning. They are strong and hold up very well. I've never washed them, although some people claim they do. I think they are a little thin for that, but good for multiple uses if you rinse them off.
I'm a fan of the Wypall X series line, they make a good product. Over the years, I've tried the different levels from x50-x90 and they all have a use, however I've settled on only using the x60 and x80. My experiences with each:
x50 - cheap, and thin. slightly thinner than the x60, but I have found them to be close to the same price point as the x60. Just get the x60s, they work a little better.
x60 - great general cleaning cloth. I use these when paper towels are too weak.
x70 - middle of the road. Good cloth, but again a little more expensive and the x60s work just as good.
x80 - Beefy, thicker cloth. Good for heavy duty tasks, but expensive. I keep these around and use them when I need something heavy. These are not so much use and toss, but are thicker and can get much higher usage.
x90 - Their heaviest cloth. These are great and are really strong, however I find them to be a little stiff and difficult to use unless they are dampened first. I stopped using these and just use the x80, which is more than enough for heavy cleaning.
I took some pictures of each cloth so you can see the texture and the thickness (may be hard to tell in the pictures). I drew a dark line with a sharpie and you can see the line under the lower numbered cloths. It's not scientific comparison, but maybe it will give you and idea what to expect. It's hard to see in the pictures, but the x70 and x80 cloths have a raised hexagon pattern.
