The Werths find themselves embroiled in another wyrd mystery when a corpse mysteriously appears in Lady Werth's sitting room. It's Addams Family type fun as Gussie and Theo make a somewhat chaotic attempt to assist cousin Balantine in solving the crime. The Selwyn family gets pulled into the mystery as well so the plot becomes even more twisty.

Another fun romp in this odd world. The cast have now moved to London and there is a murder to solve. Gussie remains almost unchanged as do the characters which is a little disappointing. She and Henry barely cross paths also disappointing.

I love this series, and whilst I like the first two books in the series more the third one does not disappoint. The writing is fantastic, there is character growth for most characters, except Gussie. It's this lack of growth that leaves me to leave only .4 review. I can't wait for another book in this series, or in any of the author's series as I have read them all!

I love this series with its unusual world and quirky characters. The Werths are the most Wyrded family in all of England. They're born normal, but are Cursed with a Wyrde (a supernatural gift) on their third birthday. This installment of the series starts with Augusta (Gussie) Werth entering her Uncle's London house and finding a corpse in her Aunt's favorite parlor. We get involved in a tangled mystery from this point on. Gussie, her cousin Theo, her friend Clarissa, and Ballantine, the Bow Street runner all seem to be investigating different aspects of the puzzling death. The ending is one that I just didn’t see coming – I like smart stories like this!
The other thing I love about this book is the characters. The Werths are charmingly casual and cheerfully indifferent towards death, due to their odd gifts and the various levels of dead and undead family members and friends. The author never misses a beat in describing their bizarre and amusingly macabre points of view. It’s done in a light-hearted and matter of fact way that suits their world perfectly. If you like fantasy in a very original world, along with a good mystery and terrific characters, you’ll enjoy this book. Please note however, this is the third book of the ‘House of Werth’ series. You’ll enjoy this book even more if you read the previous two before this one. Then you’ll get the backstory and references to previous events. They’re just as offbeat and fun as this book and well worth the time to read.

If you enjoy wit, mystery and humor…you will enjoy this book and series.

The “quirks” of this family add to the dynamics of the plot.

If you haven’t already read the other books in this series, do yourself a favor and do! It will add a dimension to the characters.

I look forward to reading more in this series.

I hope Gussie and Henry finally admit their attraction to each other.
