CHRISTOPHER GOLDEN is the New York Times bestselling author of such novels as Ararat, Red Hands, Snowblind, Wildwood Road, The Boys Are Back in Town, The Ferryman, Strangewood, and Of Saints and Shadows. Golden co-created (with Mike Mignola) the comic book universe known as The Outerverse, featuring such characters as Baltimore, Joe Golem, and Lady Baltimore. As an editor, he has worked on the short story anthologies Hex Life, Seize the Night, and The New Dead, among others, and has also written and co-written comic books, video games, screenplays, a BBC radio play, and the online animated series Ghosts of Albion (with Amber Benson). Best of the Marvel prose efforts

This novel, or trilogy of novels, avoids most of the pitfalls that have sapped the magic out of most of Marvels prose efforts. It’s an original, not just rehashing well known comics. There is actual character development, consistent with but unique from the comics. It’s plot moves rapidly (aside from a few chapters with characters who are literally adrift) and doesn’t try to stretch out the fight scenes at the expense of the story.

I was able to read the original two novels when they were released in the early 90s. Never got to finish the story as I never could find the third book. Stumbled across this during a random search and am glad I did. Takes me back to a lighter time, when I could get absorbed into a novel and read for hours straight. If you are a fan of the XMen, this is an excellent purchase and you will enjoy this story. Would’ve made a great entry in the film series, if they had adapted it.

Man this trilogy was fantastic. I read this, like the others above, when i was a teenager back in the 90s, and fell in love with it. Ive been begging amazon and marvel to release these digitally for so many years now. Do yourself the favor and read this. It is an epic adventure worthy of your time.
And if they ever release mr goldens other xmen novel, Codename: Wolverine, get that as well.

I still have my original copies of the this trilogy, but the convenience of all three in one collection is handy. I was disappointed that the original covers and chapter art was excluded and I found several typos and editorial mistakes not present in the originals, it's still a great story.
