The menus vary, and having tried several, they are very consistent in terms of taste. So how do they taste? Well, I would compare them to major-brand canned food. That is to say, they're actually pretty good, especially considering the packaging, shelf-life, and price. If you need to stock these in a 72-hour emergency kit, you'll be very pleased. But please note: You will need water to prepare and enjoy these MRE meals. In the first place, the beverage powder needs to be mixed with at least 12 ounces of water. And the mixing bag will not stand on its own while you drink it, so have a cup of some kind handy. Similarly, you need a few ounces of water to activate the heater to warm your entree (unless you want to eat it cold). I recommend having at least 24 ounces of water at hand for every meal. Also, I would like to see a better napkin in the accessory pack as the supplied one is mostly useless. It's a small point but when this may be all you have with you, the small things count.
I've used these on day hikes and on a few bicycle day-treks. They're relatively light, easy to prepare, and when you're finished, you can stuff all the packing into the main bag and dispose of properly. Again, for a 72-hour kit, these will work great.
So far, we have eaten the vegetarian taco pasta, chicken pesto pasta, and shredded beef in BBQ meals. All of the entrees tasted very good, the FRHs all worked well to warm the entrees, and I enjoyed all the sides except 1 of the toasted corn nuggets. In the vegetarian taco pasta meal, the corn nuggets tasted pretty acidic and I was not able to eat them. However, in the shredded beef in BBQ sauce meal I tried them again and they were great. Because of that, I am blaming the storage conditions and not the product itself. All the items were sealed very well and were in perfect condition when we opened them.
To anyone interested in calories and macros, I have not been able to find much online so I am posting an example of the macro breakdown from the chicken pesto pasta menu. This menu included the chicken pesto pasta entree, vegetable crackers, apple jelly, orange beverage powder, chocolate chip cookie, and dry fruit mix. There is also the usual accessory packet with instant coffee, creamer, sugar (x2), salt and pepper, plus a spoon, napkin, and wet towelette.
Total calories = 1,330
Fat = 42 grams, Sat. Fat = 13.5 grams, Trans Fat = 3.5 grams (all in the chocolate chip cookie)
Carbs = 185 grams (Fiber = 10 grams)
Protein = 37 grams
Sodium = 1,560 mg (which I think is good for this kind of meal)
Another thing I really like is each menu item has a full list of ingredients on the package. For me this was especially important for the beverage powder to make sure it did not contain aspartame which it did not (gives me terrible headaches).
Overall, I would recommend trying out these meals and I would purchase more in the future.

My only disappointment was with the heaters, as even following the instructions literally (and having read them about 10 times to be sure) couldn't yield more than a mildly warm main course after 14-15 min (they say 10-15) even if I was inside the house. Either I didn't damp the heater properly or they just need to sit on it longer, I couldn't find out. I'll need to either buy an other crate and try to figure it out or just google it.
I always wanted to try MREs but haven't been able to get any from local stores, and single units would total 20-40$ on the internet once everything is factored in. These did match my need and budget (although they hiked the price between buy and review)
