Yamaha MG Series Mixers
For more than a century, Yamaha has been building a legacy of superior craftsmanship and innovation exemplified in all of our products, from an unrivaled catalog of world-class musical instruments to touring-grade professional audio. Now in its third incarnation, the MG Series embodies this pursuit of design excellence, and incorporates some of the same technologies developed for use in high-end professional consoles, including studio-quality preamps, powerful digital processing, and a rugged, reliable construction.
With an intuitive, easy-to-use interface, the MG Series boasts an extensive lineup of compact mixing consoles with models ranging from six to twenty channels, suitable for a diverse range of users and applications. For installed, recording, or live music settings, the solid construction and flexible design of these consoles lets you shape your sound with confidence, continually delivering a level of sound quality and reliability unrivaled in its class.

Heads of the Class
Yamaha has always strived to provide sound engineers with the purest possible signal instead of added processing or color to give it a 'signature' sound, and the MG Series is no exception. Embracing this philosophy of transparent sound, these mixing consoles deliver a level of sonic purity and sound quality that is unmatched in their class.
D-PRE (Discrete Class-A Mic Preamps)
This is where it all starts. Everything you do as a sound engineer is dependent on the quality of your preamps, which determines the direction your mix will take, and ultimately how good it is going to sound. MG Series mixing consoles feature Yamaha's studio-grade discrete class-A D-PRE preamps, which utilize an inverted Darlington circuit comprising two cascading transistors in a configuration that provides more power with lower impedance.

EQ and High-pass FiltersThere's nothing more useful than reliable equalization when you need nuanced management of your tone. The MG Series benefits from Yamaha's unparalleled experience in designing pro audio gear, featuring 3-band equalizers on all mono channels for precise control of your sound. High-pass filter allows you to eliminate unwanted low-frequency noise, for a smoother, cleaner mix. |
1-Knob CompressorsCompression plays an essential role in just about any recording or sound reinforcement environment by altering the level of dynamics of an audio signal when you need livelier guitars, punchier bass lines, a tighter snare, or a cleaner vocal sound. However, it can take countless hours to master the complexities of even the most basic outboard compression units and use them effectively. |
Built-in SPX Digital EffectsFor musical and non-musical applications, effects processing adds polish and professionalism to the mix. The MG X / XU models feature Yamaha's SPX digital multi-effect processor, offering a comprehensive suite of editable digital effects perfect for enhancing your mix, whether adding depth to a speaking engagement or breathing new color and atmosphere into a live performance. |
High Quality Sound Op-ampThe head amp determines sound quality, and op-amp integrated circuits are one of the most important parts in the head amp circuit. MG Series mixers feature new, high-quality, custommade MG01 op-amps that we developed in cooperation with the semiconductor manufacturer. We worked directly with the semiconductor manufacturer to focus on sound quality first. |

EDIT: Its been a couple days since i posted this, and i wrote an email to their support, i have heard nothing. What wonderful customer service. I WOULD NOT BUY. Its a great mixer yes, but the customer support is horrible. I will continue to update this review.
Two major problems:
(a) the USB output is very low. ( I am using Audacity, and Reaper as my DAW's). I have reported this issue to Yamaha support, who suggested that was a cable issue connecting my devices, (my second laptop, Yamaha piano, and type of mikes (Condenser vs Dynamic...) Cable and connector types: TRS vs RCA etc...are fine. Also the LED output level indicators can barely show signal levels from any of the devices mentioned above. I was willing to cope with that situation.
(b) Significant issue is that after about an hour of use, the back plane (rear side along the XLR connectors all the way by the USB connector to the power connector) gets hot I mean REALLY HOT to the touch, to the point where one can smell the heat rising from that area, almost as hot as an iron.
I think this is even a more urgent situation, given that I only have a simple set up of 2 devices usually connected to the mixer (my piano, and my the laptop) then the USB going to to my main workstation for some occasional recording and mixing sessions.
So, I am planning to return it under the advisement of a Yamaha tech (Dale) I talked to today.
I have noticed that everyone who owns the MG10XU has come away with a different set of experience, some satisfied, elated, and others disappointed one way or the other, I tend to believe there may be an inconsistent production quality issue with this device in addition to some underlying as-is design problems.
So I am not sure exactly how to rate this device except to say there is something wrong with this one. And this, after about 1 week of use.
Should anyone have similar experience feel free to comment. Thanks,
The clarity of the pre amps are unreal. When they say Class A Pre Amps, they aren't kidding as the linearity, transparency and clarity are incredible. Something I would expect to find in a much more expensive unit.
People complain of the heat.... These are power transistors that are mounted properly, and exhibit no more heat then what a quality power transistor should. The unit operates well within the parameters of heat dissipation expected of a Class A transistor.
Quit worrying about the heat it produces!!!!
You will not be disappointed in this unit. If you are looking to side chain (Old School) you will have to go to a different, larger unit. But for a table top mixer YOU WILL NOT find anything better.
My only complaint is that it gets hot. Sometimes a little too hot that makes me feel uncomfortable leaving it on when I walk away from my PC.
There is an issue with intermittent crackling and audio morphing coming through the headphones when I have the usb line running in from the computer. It doesn’t show up on recordings, and it never happens when I’m only monitoring myself - it’s not the headphones. After some research, it looks like this is a common problem people have had with this mixer, and there doesn’t seem to be a fix, so it does lose one star for that, since it’s kind of a lot of money for having to just deal with this. This will be a long-term moderate annoyance for me, as I’ll be using this setup to playback recordings, and I also use it for gaming. Thankfully it doesn’t make it completely unusable. The audio issues last for a couple seconds up to about a minute, and you can still understand what’s being said if you pay close attention.
But everything else has been pretty great.

If you're confused whether to go for USB audio interface or mixer:
1) USB audio interfaces with RCA input/ line inputs - go for this if you want to RECORD audio from a mixer, amplifier or any other AV device that has AV output. This can work to record cassette / CD player audio to your computer. This is the cheapest option with reasonable quality. Behringer gives most cost effective options.
2) USB audio interfaces with both mic and line inputs- these are good for recording from AV source and mic input particularly for recording live music performance with instruments. Costlier than 1 above and the cost increases as you look for more inputs sources. Example, Focusrite Scarlet, Behringer, Steinberg, Zoom etc.
3) Audio Mixers: You need a mixer, if you've multiple input sources. Do not go for audio interface with many inputs - you'll not get results with desired flexibility. ** Go for a mixer with as many inputs as you need for live performance and add USB audio interface for recording.** You're good to go for both live performance, recording to PC, pod-casting, Karaoke performances. Example, Yamaha, Mackie, Behringer, Steinberg etc.
There are analog audio mixers with USB interface (like this MG10XU), but the recording results over USB are not as expected (USB sound output is too low) unless you go for costly digital mixers. I went for UCA222 with this Yamaha MG10XU that gives best possibility for all possible combinations for an professional quality amateur home studio.
The download of Cubase available with this is trouble-free from Steinberg, but it is too huge and technical for beginners. Audacity is a better option for beginners. Windows 10 recognizes MG10XU as recording device and configure the drivers. Personally, I'm satisfied with recording via MG10XU USB interface to Audacity with some Amplification effect.
This model MG10XU is a piece of beauty and quality. Nice value for money. The built, finish, presentation is good and controls' handling is smooth. The sound quality rendered by Yamaha is excellent and the effects are good. You'll need a lot of cables and connector/ converters, so research before you buy accessories to minimize cables, connections and converters. Went for Yamaha instead of Mackie or Berhinger for better chances of support in India.
PS: Professional mixing and recording is quite different consideration. Above holds good for small to medium home or amateur setup.

Last but not least , for recording always u need to amplify output file through various daw like audacity ,traction, cubase ,ects because it will give u very low volume sound recording which we have to amplify by the help of daw (digital audio workstation ) .
Pros:-
1- best recording quality 24 bit 192 khz
2- very easy to use.
3- great mic pre apms ,0 noice i feel .
4- compact not need much space but yet feature full.
5- adopter is with 2 pin ac plug this will reduce issue of ground loop
6- made in Malaysia {not Chinese}
And many more pros are there
7- great 24 spx effects covers each and every effects one need in live performances
Cons-
1. It is suitable for small bands only not for big ones
2. It gives low volume output while recording in pc via usb but it can be amplify by daw (digital audio workstation ) very easily .
This is it this is a great mixer with great spx 24 effects

Gradually I come to understand as unable to do recording music and Vocal separately...All tracks are getting mixed in a single audio track. Where as physical mixer is working fine with PA system.
When I contact service center ,I really shocked. As per their analysis it has hardware issue and I need to visit nearest service center .
And finally I submitted in Pune Yamaha authorized center...After number of follow up calls and mails this set received from service center after changed it's mother board. It took approx 3 weeks.
My sincere feedback- Yamaha is a premium brand. But the Delear - Appario Retail Private Ltd, form where I have received this set has sent me a faulty mixer .
They have not checked through and because of that I have been harassed mentality and financially.
My doubt become more concrete when I found one more invoice slip pasted in the same box ..Which was one month old. It means they have sent me returned by other customer and faulty set.
My recommendation is not buy your dream set from such unethical delears-"Appario Retail Private Ltd"
Be careful !!

...*SIGH* just remember to download the latest audio drivers from Yamaha's website. This is the only thing that I wished that they automatically did.
Edit: It's September 25, 2018 and my $ 272.99 CAD mixer board no longer works and I just recently found out it only comes with a 1 year manufacturer's warranty. According to the product description the board's chassis is meant to last and that I can probably believe. The one thing that is a problem is that the components inside do not even last for 1 year of use as since I have been busy with work I have not used this board since ordering it from Amazon. I've actually used this for about 4 months of man hours total.
I absolutely would not recommend buying one of these without buying at least an additional 3 years warranty provided from Amazon.
