I didn't like the plain looking set so I went to lowes bought the red and blue sample paint, tape and a foam brush. Really liked how it turned out!
Before purchasing you need to understand that you are throwing large wooden dowel rods at other wooden blocks. This will cause the wood to dent, no type or treatment of wood will ever prevent that. It IS hardwood, it has a nice smooth feel to it and the pieces fit nicely in the bag (though I recommend you memorize how they come in the bag since they need to go back in a certain way).
You should also understand that, again because you are throwing large wooden dowel rods, there is a certain amount of danger with using this product. Any danger can be negated however by following the rules of the game (only throwing underhand) and by paying attention to the game, especially if you are supervising children.
All this said, the game is great. I got this as a gift for my Mom's birthday and she loved it. Her and my Dad have played it multiple times since then and have told me how much fun it is playing. If I ever want another set of Kubb I will definitely be buying this one.
We love playing! Even the neighbors came over to play and will be purchasing a set!
I absolutely love it and I WILL be purchasing another set for us!
As far as the bag is concerned, it is not difficult to pack. If you can pack a suitcase and/or tie your own shoes, you should be able to pack this up. Big stuff goes in the bottom, smaller on top. If you're really concerned that you can't do it, just look how it's packed before you take it out. But honestly, I'm astounded that anyone has had a problem.
If you're a hardcore Kubb fan - ask someone else. If you're a casual player or looking to get into the game, this is a great set.
The carrying case is nice (vs just having all the parts in a backpack or something), but you do have to get all the parts lined up pretty much exactly as shipped from the factory in order for them to fit back in and be able to zip the bag up. It would be nice if the bag was slightly larger so you could get the pieces in without having to fiddle them all in perfectly. But I imagine once we have taken the set in and out several more times, we'll get better at remembering the repack sequence.
