I happened to read a marathi novel after a long time and seriously it was difficult to put down. It is excellent in all aspects of writing- the story, language, detailing of the characters, flow, depth - and most importantly, it is not just a story of the lust of a king as the title connotes, but it is in a way a story of a humankind. It expresses some eternal facts of human life- like "Trusha(lust) leads to more Trushna". The monologue of the main characters enables the readers to take a deep insight into their personalities and see the world or facts from their point of view. It is a takeaway message from this novel that people aren't as black and white as they seem, but there is a lot going on underneath which make them who they are and the way they interact with others. A must read Marathi classic.

The balanced view that author suggests so effectively by understanding the interplay of human thinking, behavior, emotions, social nurture is beautifully painted on a canvass borrowed from a somewhat less important story from puranas. Was planning to read this book since I was 20. Eventually read it a ripe age of 48.

Book is in good condition, and as other readers reviewed YAYATI is an excellent narrated novel in marathi fictions, it is 'read in life time' book. I wanted to read this book from my school days, and today after reading this novel I'm very pleased with V. S. Khandekar's writing. He narrated each human feelings in real and touching fashion, he redefined human's view towards true love, satisfaction, friendship, aspirations, and last but not least a man's lust.
