4.0 out of 5 starsIt grows on you. An epic series.

The first couple episodes seemed slow and disjointed I suppose in an effort to introduce everyone and the layout of the story. By the 3rd episode we were hooked in and bought three more seasons. Season 4 was our favorite, so far. We're looking forward to all of 5. There were more political themes than I expected, but most of it was about family and ranch life and trying to hold on to both. There was a mix of drama with a bit of comedy relief now and then. And a bit of romance, especially season 4.
I enjoyed all the actors very much. They each did a good job fleshing out their characters and bring them to life. They each brought something different to the series. The acting even improved as the show went on. Note: I would NOT watch this with kids. There is a lot of killing and vengeance and other violence including against women. Plus there is a lot of the F-word and other profanity. (funny how the throw the f-word around like candy at a parade, but later on start pulling back "in front of the children" or at the table.)
We also watched 1883 and the first episodes of 1923. This is the best of the three in my opinion.
