Funny and heartfelt. A true gem of a show.

The show has heart. I can't think of a better way to describe it. The Cooper family feels real. It's not the typical dysfunctional TV family so commonly portrayed on shows today. Best of all, almost every episode has at least one genuine "laugh out loud" moment. (My favorite so far: "Was the word "KABOOM?")

Ian Armitage (born July of 2008 - the kid really IS only nine years old!) is spot on as young Sheldon. I'm impressed at his ability to channel the obsessive and quirky tics of the character made famous by Jim Parsons. Zoe Perry is fantastic as the younger Mary Cooper. No surprise there. Zoe is the real life daughter of Laurie Metcalf, the actress who plays Mary Cooper in the Big Bang Theory. Raegan Revord, "Missy Cooper" steals scenes as Sheldon's mischievous twin sister. The real show stealer is Annie Potts, as the wiley and irrepressible "Meemaw." Potts's "Meemaw" is nothing like the dowdy character we saw in Big Bang Theory's season nine's "Meemaw materialization" episode. Annie Pott's "Meemaw" truly lights up the show and adds a lot of laughs.

Most shows take two or three seasons to really hit their stride. "Young Sheldon" has found solid footing right out of the gate. Here's hoping for several more seasons of this fine show.

A fun new offering from Chuck Lorre
Verified purchase
This is not a typical sitcom like the other shows by Chuck Lorre. There is no laugh track, or jokes every minute like in "Two and a Half Men" or "The Big Bang Theory". It's a show about the character Sheldon from "The Big Bang Theory" as a child in East Texas and his difficulties in understanding how to be an ordinary child with his extreme intellect and curiosity, but almost complete lack of common sense. I'd compare this show to "The Wonder Years" as more of an amusing coming of age story rather than pure comedy. I think the casting is right on, the actors are very good, and the writing (as usual) is excellent. I don't know if you have to know the Sheldon character from "The Big Bang Theory" to enjoy watching this show, but it's a "hoot and a half" seeing some of Sheldon's stories about his childhood play out.

This show is really funny

I like The Big Bang Theory so much I started watching Young Sheldon. I waited quite a while and then watched with some trepidation because grown Sheldon makes his childhood relations sound hideous. But Young Sheldon and his family are nothing like that at all. His father and “meemaw” are completely different from what’s described on TBBT. The entire cast and the stories are sweet and very likable. Well, meemaw is very likable. Annie Potts (love seeing her again) plays her as a wonderfully modern senior. Nothing like how grown Sheldon remembers her. This Sheldon is a lot of fun and has guest stars you’ll recognize. Well, when I say recognize......Jason Alexander’s appearance is exceptionally fun. He’s into his character so expertly that when you see him at first you think “hey, it’s Jason Alexander”. But very quickly you start to question if it’s really him or someone that looks amazingly like him. I was sure I’d worked it out that it was JA but paid particular attention to the end credits just to be sure. Hope to see him as some sort of recurring character in the series. The show is really funny and at times touchingly so. I’m glad I found it.

Best New Show!

The acting in this is just unbelievable. I admit that when I heard this show was being made I thought it was going to be dreadful. I couldn't imagine how they could make this work. Well, they did, and more. Every person in this show deserves an Emmy. Annie Potts as Mee-Maw keeps us rolling each episode and the girl who plays Missy is just terrific. But Sheldon? Or, Young Sheldon? He is fascinating. He plays the part to an absolute T. He makes it look like he must have spent hours upon hours studying with the Adult Sheldon.
Here's a little trivia for you. If any of you were amazed at how Sheldon's mom looks and sounds so much like Laurie Metcalf (his older mom in BBT), it's because that is her daughter! She knew her mother's mannerisms perfectly so of course, she was the natural choice for the role. I love her!

Greatly Entertaining

This show is simply adorable. The situations that Shelton gets himself into are all hilarious because of his uncensored truth and his uncensored viewpoints, which are like no others.

The cast is excellent with everyone playing their parts perfectly. Watching this sitcom has convinced me that we do, indeed, need social guidelines, norms, and more's. The honesty of our genius Shelton is totally refreshing....yet, I have learned that peppering honesty with tact probably grew out of the cavemen and women bopping each other over the head because of too much information.

As soon as I watched the first episode, I purchased Season 1 and have been laughing ever since. This is a delightful show for the whole family. Younger children may not grasp all the nuances but probably will enjoy it anyway.

Season 2 is, also, a winner although I was only able to watch about 3 episodes without joining the network for a monthly fee, which isn't my cup of tea. If I could buy it outright, I definitely would. Recommend, recommend, recommend.

SHOW GREAT!.... Review of tangible product assembly issues (Young Sheldon S1 Blu-ray)
Verified purchase
5 STARS for the show YOUNG SHELDON, from what I have seen in season 4, I believe the show deserves high marks.

THIS TANGIBLE PRODUCT REVIEW concerns the poor assembly and quality assurance of the product sold.
The system requires a minimum of 1 star, I do so under protest, assigning even 1 star is too many for the poor assembly quality of this product.

(1) I purchased Young Sheldon Seasons 1-3, 2 and 3 arrived just find. However, when I received season 1, it had been shipped alone in an envelope mailer and it arrived with a rattle sound meaning one of the disc came loose in transit and scratched the disc. I returned it to Amazon and waited for the replacement.

(2) When the replacement arrived, it had the same rattle issue, but since we were getting tired of waiting, I opened the case in hopes that there would be no damage. What do I find? Yes, a damaged disc. What else? The Young Sheldon Season 1 case contained the discs for Season 2. Return and replace with Amazon again.

(3) The next package arrived safely and had no rattle! However, this Young Sheldon Season 1 case ALSO contained the discs for Season 2. Send it back to Amazon for a refund.

(4) Waited and tried ordering again. Package arrived undamaged and rattle free! However, we were busy and did not have time to watch it, forgot about watching it and slipped our minds to check the contents prior to the return window closing. Well, what do you know? What are the odds? This package of Season 1 ALSO was void of Season 1 discs and contained Season 2 discs!

Great show.

This little kid playing the young Sheldon is a crack up. Zoe Perry as the younger version of Sheldon's mom, (played by Laurie Metcalf), has done a fantastic job in protraying the mother at a younger age. Zoe has incorporated the voice, inflection, tone that Laurie Metcalf has and shows on the few occasions she appears on The Big Bang. Annie Potts as young Sheldon's grandma, (Zoe Perrys mom), is perfect in the role, as Annie Potts is en every role she portrays. I love Annie Potts. Lance Barber, and Montana Jordan, young Sheldon's father and older brother, are well cast in these rolls. The one that is a surprise crack up, and the writers do her roll very well, Reagan Revord, who plays young Sheldon's twin sister. That girl and the camera work well together. All in all, the cast, writers, producers, director have done a great job with this production.

The true star of the show is the girl who plays Missy.

Now that they managed to derail “The Big Bang Theory” and reduced it to yet another version of “Friends”, this show picks up where the original one left off. “The Young Sheldon” is funny as hell, and I especially like Sheldon’s twin sister Missy - the girl is a mega talent!
