5.0 out of 5 stars Socially Responsible Local Investments Now Have a Valid Claim on Our Minds and Wallets
By Tim Size on June 28, 2020
Michael Shuman has long written and spoke about the importance of socially responsible investing. Investing in our local communities and neighborhoods has a ready claim on many of our hearts. Now with his tenth book, “Put Your Money Where Your Life Is,” socially responsible investing has a valid claim on our minds and wallets. My wife and I had invested in our local community development financial institution and have been wondering what else we might do; we now have the tools to look into self-directed IRAs. Working in rural health care, I know firsthand how community and economic development is a driver of rural health. The 2019 County Health Rankings show that two-thirds of Wisconsin’s rural counties had health outcomes below the state average–driven by health factors such as employment and income. If rural communities are to have better health, they need to have stronger and more vibrant local economies. One important strategy is to consider Michael’s advice and make responsible local investments. Just as we become what we eat, our communities and neighborhoods reflect where and how we invest.
