In a chance encounter with someone from her past, Zoe opens up to the idea of indulging Josh's fantasy with more... realism. Lucky for Josh, she's stumbled on to an older man, which is an aspect of his fantasy he never dared to share with her. It looks like they might have stumbled on the perfect infusion for their marriage: adventure for Zoe, and a touch of darkness for Josh.
But Zoe's choice of man comes with greater complications than she - or Josh - anticipated. Older men come with older passions, and more experience getting them. Did Zoe open up her marriage, or a Pandora's Box?

Randy is a psychiatrist and Zoe’s conversation with him almost immediately has him probing what the grown Zoe, and her marriage, are about. Zoe for her part, and in her soused state, can’t deny how attractive she finds Randy - buff, aging well, affluent, and now divorced. And Randy gives off hints that his interest in Zoe isn’t purely platonic or professional.
Zoe’s husband Josh meanwhile has a kink about her being with another man. Is Randy that guy? Is this the time to try? This is a hotwife novel, so you know it is. That’s why we buy them!
I always enjoy Butler’s diffident, emotionally klutzy hotwives. Zoe has the usual problems getting complex thoughts out of her mouth, and second-guessing them as soon as she does. She has a good relationship with Josh, but their sex and personal life have been on the back burner for a while as he puts in a lot of overtime at work, pressured by a demanding boss. Josh’s web-designing career and victim position, of course, knock him down a few notches on the strong-husband ladder, while Randy’s looks, money and independence elevate him.
And, it turns out, while he knows a lot about marital sex lives from his practice, he also has a whole lot of talent in the bedroom that he didn’t learn in med school. And he’s had the hots for Zoe for a long time.
Zoe and Josh, while agreeing that Randy is the guy, manage to get tangled up when Randy holds off on responding, Zoe thinks she’s been rejected, then avoids telling Josh that. Once things develop she’s trapped in her lie.
Enter the classic "great guy" Josh, a talented web designer with designs on putting a ring on Zoe's finger. Soon married to Zoe and settled in marital bliss, but still not ready to expand the family, Josh becomes the victim of a tyrannical boss, with his office grind extending into the evenings with more frequency than he or Zoe would have preferred. Meanwhile, Zoe is grinding along in 9 to 5 monotony as an insurance agent. But the monotony was not meant to last . . . as Worlds begin to collide.
Though the frequency of intimate marital moments waned, the intensity did not, as both Josh and Zoe were active in sharing fantasies to keep the adrenaline pumping in the bedroom, with those fantasies often involving Zoe and other men. Only Josh never shared with Zoe that his fantasy extended to a darker place - with the fantasy man being of a more specific profile – older and domineering. Who would patiently and carefully groom Zoe. Who had the experience to take Zoe to places a husband never could take a sweet, heretofore innocent wife. Who would teach her to do very, very filthy things. Would the World of Josh’s darker, private fantasy ever collide with his World of reality???
While Zoe’s Ex occasionally made an appearance in her rather active mind, she was caught off guard in a bar/game venue during her office’s periodic team building event, as she noticed a man from a distance who could have been Derek’s doppelganger. Only this version was tan and more muscular. And his hair was salt and pepper, with almost entirely gray stubble creating a rugged looking 5 o’clock shadow. From across the bar, he sends Zoe her favorite drink – a Californication - from her days with Derek. Zoe realizes that only one man (other than Derek) would know this secret. Perfectly on cue, Dr. Randy McIntyre, Derek’s 50-something father, ambles over to see how Zoe likes her flashback drink. A marriage counseling shrink deemed to be “hot” by Zoe’s office posse, Dr. Randy was not good enough at his trade to save his own marriage, ironically to a wife in the same profession. So, Zoe's drink with a divorce pending DILF turns into another and another . . . which moves to a different, more intimate bar . . . which soon involves tequila . . . which turns into a shared Uber home . . . which becomes a detour to Randy’s mind-blowing house . . . which ends with a gentlemanly escort of a wobbly Zoe from the Uber to her front door. Worlds collide for Zoe - as her Ex is upgraded from steamy memories of the raw, youthful version to the scintillating presence of a mature, polished psychologist version, who demonstrates that he has the capability to leverage coaching that is paternal in nature into more intimate training that may become deliciously decadent in reality.
Earlier in the evening, Zoe sent Josh a rather innocent text to let him know that she was staying a little later for drinks with a high school friend’s dad. Poor Josh. Zoe’s message immediately destroyed any chance of concentration at work, keeping him stuck in the salt mine until almost midnight. Remember, Zoe was not aware of the “older man” element of Josh’s fantasy, so she had no idea that she inadvertently caused Worlds to collide for Josh, placing what heretofore had been only a fantasy on a potential orbit to become reality. With Josh hidden and watching their walk to the front door - and hoping . . .
While more Worlds collide as Zoe’s Flame continues to burn hotter in the rest of Book 1, it was numbered for a reason, as more Worlds are certain to collide in the galaxy of Book 2 – and beyond.
Keep up the great work, Arnica! Can’t wait for what's next for Zoe and Josh!!!
To much confusing self questioning for all.osy an entire chapter when a paragraph would get the point across.
Her effort "A taste for teasing" is by far a hotter storyline you will reread an feel the heat every time!
I can’t wait for the next volume to see where this all heads and to what nasty things Randy leads Zoe to.
The sex scenes in this story are off the chart hot.
Top reviews from other countries

Josh has a Hotwife fantasy which they have fun roleplaying.
Zoe is an adrenaline-junky she never passes on anything risky.
Josh hasn’t told Zoe how dark these fantasies really go and Zoe hasn’t let on that hers extend to BDSM.
While out on a work ‘team-building’ evening, Zoe bumps into her childhood sweetheart’s father.
Randy’s is now a 52 divorced phycologist.
Back then Randy was a father figure to Zoe, and they had deep chats, so she is tempted into mentioning Josh’s fantasy to him for advice.
If the couple were to put all their cards on the table, this might be straightforward. But Josh finds it hard to open up and Zoe is, as usual, drawn to risk and danger.
Is Randy really the upstanding experienced, caring professional and a friend or has Zoe always been on his agenda and he is out to take advantage of their fantasy?
This first part is much more than an introduction, by the end, the action is intense.
Another brilliantly woven storyline which is only what we have come to expect from this author.

I believe I've aleady mentioned the impressive range of Arnica Butler's authority... yet she just gets better and better, she even makes her characters' moments of babbling inarticulacy sound genuine. Maybe I 'm just a freak for the flow of flawless prose, but I was turned on by every page of this instalment. The author knows full well that what makes for good erotica is context not just lip service to biological functionalism. Here she presents two of her most sympathetic characters and one of her dodgiest.
As is fiction's wont, as Book 1 draws to a close a pall hangs over our young adventurers. Zoe's addiction to risk and dalliance with danger may well have dire consequences of one kind or another. Josh's kink and backbone may also bode ill on more than one front.
All I have left now is re-reads and great expectations of the sequel.
Definitely a candidate for best book this year.
