You have to have the Plex App installed on your main computer, a paid subscription to Plex (I purchased the Lifetime subscription rather than a yearly subscription), the Plex App on your iPhone or iPad (Free), and a special Plex directory on the WD MyCloud Home NAS where your media files are stored. Then you give the Plex app on your main computer access to that directory. All that can be configured from within the Plex app on your main computer. Range isn't an issue since it works over the internet and is available from anywhere. As long as you have an internet connection, you should be able to get to it and play your music. You can play your music from Mars if you could be provided a fast enough internet connection.

The issue with this device though is that it is not a network drive. You cannot access the files or folders directly and can only get to your files through the WD My cloud app. Therefore you will only be able to play the music through the WD My Cloud app, and not have the features, playlists, etc. that you may be using in another app. This is one of the things I hate about this product. You cannot relocate a music library from an app to this device because the device will not recognize it. You can only upload files to it through the WD Software and you can only access them through the WD software. see less
