Hi CSM:
The only other cutting mat I have is a medium size Olfa Rotary Mat. The 24 x 36" Fiskars mat is the same thickness of my Olfa if that is any help. I have not had any other experience with the Fiskar mats prior to this purchase. I see that Fiskars Brands, Inc. is located in Madison, WI (my home state) and their phone # is 1-866-348-5661 for any other questions you may have. Good luck & happy cutting & sewing.

As far as I can tell they are the same thickness, at least mine are. I have had my other one for several years and it is the same thickness as this new one. My other mat is a Dura-Seal. They seem to be of the same quality also.

I have always found them to be the same thickness - and yes, I often place two large mats side-by-side for a larger cutting surface.
The only time I've ever noticed any difference in thickness is between one brand and another, e.g., Fiskars to Olfa. There can also be a difference between different "colors" of one man… see more

There can also be a difference between different "colors" of one manufacturer, but so long as they are both of the same brand and type, I've never had two mats be of a different thickness.
One other thing, some brands do a really good job of making a good, straight, even cut on the edges. Most mats abut evenly without gaps or space between the two mats, but that isn't always the case. Fiskars are usually excellent in abutting well, as are the Olfa mats. see less
