If I set the temp range for my smoker between 250-275 how far out of that range will it go before alarm sounds

That is up to you to program the monitor to whatever temperature you want. If you set your smoker to 250 degrees and want to know if temperature is +/- 25 degrees from the smoker's set temperature, then set your low temp alarm for 225 and your high temp alarm for 275. Alarm temperatures are adjustable, including for the food probe. It isn't difficult to do, just follow the instructions included in the box.

If the probe temperature drops below or goes above the set range it will sound an alarm.

HELLO I REALLY CANNOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION AS I HAVE ALWAYS HAD THE RECEIVER WITH ME SO I NEVER DID USE THE ALARM SETUP. SORRY
