The little holes in the peg ends--are they actual open holes or are they plugs blocking access to the inside? I'm worried about gunk growing inside!

The pegs themselves have a very small open hole, but I'm not sure why gunk would be getting inside of this toy to pose a concern.

It comes apart and you can pop this in the top rack of the dishwasher. The pegs store inside the toy when not in use.

Open holes, and you can even remove the blue cover to store the sticks inside

The plugs fit in the holes. It’s a great learning toy.

They are solid. Nothing can get into the pegs.

I really can’t remember. I gave it to my grandson for his birthday.
